Use Chase Points to Qualify for Top Tier Hyatt Status in as Few as 10 Nights

Hyatt is offering double elite qualifying night credit at Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara-branded all-inclusive resort properties when you stay and check out between August 1 and November 23, 2019. Registration is required by October 31.

That new offer has been shared fairly broadly, but I was waiting to cover it while I got something confirmed that will be especially interesting for American Airlines elite frequent flyers. Remember American and Hyatt now have a partnership where you earn AAdvantage miles in addition to Hyatt points when you stay with Hyatt (and Hyatt points in addition to AAdvantage miles when you fly American).

First let me offer two points that may be obvious but are worth reminding, and then a more interesting and less obvious point.

What’s potentially even more interesting is that American AAdvantage elites can register with Hyatt for an elite status fast track. I’ve confirmed with Hyatt that this double elite qualifying night offer counts towards the fast track offer. Hyatt tells me,

The double nights under the Hyatt Ziva/ Hyatt Zilara promo are considered qualifying nights in the program, therefore would count toward achieving tier status for the American Airlines Explorist and Globalist status challenges.

You can register, get temporary status, and a fast track to keep your status through February 2021. I was offered,

  • Stay 10 nights within 90 days of registering to keep Explorist status through February 2021
  • Stay 20 nights within 90 days to earn Globalist through February 2021

Under that sort of scenario a 5 night Ziva or Zilara stay would be enough for Explorist status through February 2021. A ten night stay would yield Globalist status (notably without the 60 night benefits like confirmed suite upgrades). Globalists receive best available upgrades at check-in, including to suites, late checkout (guaranteed at most properties but subject to availability at resorts), and the most extensive breakfast benefit of any chain.

So American AAdvantage elites can really benefit from this offer by stacking the redemption rebate (if a World Of Hyatt Credit Card cardmember), status challenge, and double elite qualifying nights to great effect.

Now, would you want to stay at a Ziva or Zilara property as a ‘mattress run’? That depends on how much you value the stay itself and the status. I’m not sure I’d choose where to vacation on this basis, but many of us could use an excuse for an extra vacation.

In addition to using this promotion to earn status, simply earning more elite qualifying nights has purpose now that Hyatt gives out incremental benefits for every 10 nights stayed.

# Nights Or Benefit
10 25k base points or 3 meetings Discoverist
20 35k base points 2 club lounge access awards
30 50k base points or 10 meetings Explorist, 2 club access awards, cat 1-4 free night
40 65k base points 5k points or $100 Hyatt gift card or 10k points off FIND experience
50 80k base points 2 confirmed suite upgrade awards
60 100k base points or 20 meetings Globalist, 2 suite upgrade awards, cat 1-7 free night, concierge
70 N/A 10,000 points or suite upgrade award
80 N/A 10,000 points or suite upgrade award
90 N/A 10,000 points or suite upgrade award
100 N/A 10,000 points or suite upgrade award

And of course if you haven’t been to a Ziva or Zilara before and stay at either for the first time that’s another brand towards a free night. Hyatt gives you a category 1-4 free night for every 5 brands you stay at.

Here’s where you can take advantage of this deal:

  • Hyatt Ziva (family) properties: Montego Bay, Jamaica; Cancun, Mexico; Los Cabos, Mexico; Puerto Vallarta, Mexico; Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

  • Hyatt Zilara (adults only) properties: Montego Bay, Jamaica; Cancun, Mexico; Cap Cana, Dominican Republic

  1. Gary, does the Hyatt Visa spend credits count towards the 10/20 nights required? TIA!

  2. I wonder if I were to upgrade my Hyatt card during this timeframe if my 5 elite nights would also count towards the 20 nights required?

  3. Isn’t mattress run at 5k/night Hyatt much cheaper? Sure it’s 20 nights, but still 90k (20*5k-10k) points that route vs 225k (10*25k-25k) if just doing a pure mattress run. Now, the Zilara rose hall is amazing and def worth the trip if looking for a vacation

  4. Nice but I simply do not have time for a 10 night vacation till the end of the year.

  5. what if I book more than one room? does it count only the room I am in or count multiple rooms?

  6. This only works for those who have time to burn spending 10 nights in central America or the Caribbean between start of school and Thanksgiving. Not too useful compared to doing short mattress runs at cheapo local properties.
