American Express Improves Earning and Bonus For Blue Cash Preferred Card

I do not write about all credit cards that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same).

American Express has updated earning with the Blue Cash Preferred® Card. Along with that is an increased initial bonus of a $250 statement credit after spending $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of card membership.

They’re dropping 3% back at select U.S. department stores (however cardmembers who were approved for the product prior to May 9, 2019 will continue to receive this benefit until July 31).

However they’ve improved rewards overall. The card earns:

  • 6% Cash Back on select U.S. streaming subscriptions
  • 3% on transit including taxis/rideshare, parking, tolls, trains, buses
  • 6% at U.S. supermarkets on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%)
  • 3% Cash Back at U.S. gas stations
  • 1% cash back on other purchases

This may be the card that Kourtney Kardashian uses.

Doctor of Credit reports that through June 26 cardmembers can refer friends to this card. Cardholders can receive $100 for referring a friend approved for the card, up to $550 per year, and the new cardmember gets an offer of $300 after $1,000 in spend.
