Hilton Will Give You 90 Days Free Gold or Diamond Status (Keep It Easily Through March 2021)

Have an important stay coming up where elite status — club lounge access or breakfast, a room upgrade — would be nice? Hilton will give you free 90 days of status if you have elite status with any chain.

And many credit cards come with hotel elite status. Marriott even gives status to United Gold elites and above. So United Gold or the Club Carlson Visa now can be said to also come with 90 days of Hilton status, in a sense.

You’ll get 90 days of status and then you can keep it through March 2020:

  • If you’re matched to Gold then complete 4 stays in 90 days
  • If you’re matched to Diamond then complete 8 stays in 90 days

All you have to do is complete a form. Give them your name and Hilton Honors number, tell them the status you have in another program, and upload .jpg ‘proof’:

  1. That you have status with that program (“a screenshot of your current account status or your membership card”)

  2. And that you’ve stay in a hotel at least once in the last 12 months.

Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number.

Status only takes a few days to update. Hilton has offered this on and off for years. The terms and conditions have always suggested that it was targeted, but it never has been. It’s an offer you can take advantage of only once, however the terms actually say it’s once in “the lifetime of the promotion” rather than your lifetime or the program’s lifetime.

And I just love this button:

Now status that you earn by staying 4 or 8 times during the match lasts through March 2021. The website still says March 2020 but Loyalty Lobby reports that Hilton is simply in the process of updating the website.

Terms and conditions:

Acceptable forms of status validation include a screenshot of your current account status or your current and active membership card. Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number. We accept .jpg files only. Please do NOT send us any personal information (including your phone number, address, social security number, date of birth, user name, passwords, or credit card information). Hilton reserves the right to decline any application at any time for any reason. Hilton may require additional validation in its complete discretion. Please allow 5 -7 business days for Hilton Honors to process your request.

  1. does anyone have any information on what competitor level matches to diamond?

I have Hyatt Explorist, Wyndham Diamond and Marriott and Marriott Lifetime Gold Elite. I would prefer the Diamond match – thanks!

  2. Hi Gary !

About the hotel stay validation: should it be in a hotel from the chain in which you have the elite status or any hotel at all ?

  3. Sure when you book a Hilton hotel the ten dollar coupon they issue you towards your breakfast On your 500 dollar room
That allows them to issue Diamond till it’s worth next to nothing
It’s pretty weak except in the rare exception hotel
So your free breakfast is only 30 to 40 dollarsper person per day
    as opposed to 50
Want water? that’s 10 dollars for sparkling
It does work much better abroad but in North America from luxury hotels to standard full services hotels your paying for your breakfast and have no guarantee
of any kind of late check out
They argue even for a hour extension
Welcome all to the diluted Diamond tier just like water

  4. Dwondermeant speaks the truth. Chances are good that anybody who has Marriott Platinum or Hyatt Globalist would find Hilton Diamond underwhelming and not worth spending 8 nights to keep.

Hilton status is much easier to come by: An Amex Platinum card gets you Gold and an Aspire gets you Diamond. My own experience with Gold has taught me that it’s not worth anything more than the $10 breakfast coupons. Hilton seems to HATE late checkout requests, even small ones. I have yet to find a Hilton with a lounge in any of the cities I go to, and that’s about the only extra Diamond status would get me. For all of its imperfections, my current Marriott Platinum status provides noticeably more value than Hilton Diamond would.

  5. I just did a status update and got the 90 days diamond. Didn’t stay required nights to extend any status beyond those 90 days. How often can I do this? Can I do it again now?

  6. @Texan@Heart: What? You haven’t stayed at the Hanoi Hilton? They upgraded me to a suite, the Executive Lounge , and free torture room.
