9 More Airlines Let You Get Through Security Faster With PreCheck

Whether you have PreCheck because you’ve signed up for that program, or gotten it through another service like Global Entry, it only works with participating airlines that have invested in integrating with TSA for screening customer information.

TSA announced today that 9 more airlines support PreCheck: Air India, Asiana Airlines, China Airlines, Eastern Airlines, Elite Airways, EVA Airways, Japan Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, and Volaris.

A total of sixty five airlines currently participate in TSA PreCheck, so if you’ve signed up and provide your ‘Known Traveler Number’ in your reservation you’ll generally qualify.

But What if There’s No PreCheck Lane Open at the Airport?

Whenever at an airport which doesn’t offer TSA PreCheck, or TSA PreCheck lanes are closed (after hours), TSA may provide for expedited screening, which in my experience has meant:

  • You keep your shoes on
  • Your bag of liquids stays in your bag
  • Your laptop and other large electronics are still supposed to come out of your bag
  • You go through the metal detector

Maintaining Global Entry and TSA PreCheck

Once you have TSA PreCheck you don’t want to lose it. When coming into the country be sure to declare chocolates, candy bars, chips, or any various items of sustenance whether open or closed, for personal consumption at the airport or meant as gifts. Even if it’s just chocolates from your flight. Violating customs rules can cause you to lose Global Entry (and TSA PreCheck).

And be sure to keep your profile up to date for instance if you get a new passport you need to link it with your government account.

Finally don’t wait until your Global Entry or TSA PreCheck expires, you’ll want to renew it several months in advance.

  3. I am happy they added Japan Airlines. I might go and see the famous lucky Billiken statue in Osaka again. Touching the statue is said to be lucky. So I touched it and was lucky for a short while. I think I need a recharge.

  4. Apparently Qantas is not part of this program even though it recently asked for known traveller number and printed a boarding pass with TSA Pre. That boarding pass was not accepted in the US. I reprinted at American and that boarding pass worked fine.

  5. Can anyone identify what “Eastern Airlines” is? Didn’t an airline of the same name go belly up in 1991?

    Are they talking about China Eastern Airlines or Eastern Airways? I have a China Eastern flight coming up, so I’m curious.

  7. I applied to renew in December and my application still says “pending review”. My Global Entry expires in the middle of March. I’m not traveling anywhere until May so I don’t need it soon or anything just wondering if they will continue with the current application I have or make me start over once my global entry expires.

  9. So at this point with so many participating airlines it would be be helpful to see a list of prominent carriers that still AREN’T participating

  10. It’s almost more valuable to list the major airlines that *aren’t* included yet. From Oneworld, still missing Iberia, LATAM, and Qantas. From Skyteam, Air Europa and Alitalia. From Star Alliance, LOT.

  13. I didn’t renew my GE until just before my card expired. My TSA Pre kept working before I got the new card.
