  2. Most Americans would be hard-pressed to place their state capital on a map of their state and their state within the nation. Misconceptions about continental placement are unsurprising.

  3. Every frequent (international) flyer should own a globe of the world. National Geographic actually do a good range at reasonable prices. You can tell at a glance how close, or otherwise, point A is from point B when planning flights, and why it is often quicker to fly over the North Pole to get places. Sadly for Canadians though, Canada isn’t actually as large as a traditional one dimensional map would suggest.
