Hurry: Delta Lie Flat Business Class Saver Awards to Hawaii for 8 Passengers

Most days from June through end of schedule there are 8 or more business class saver award seats available on Delta’s Detroit – Honolulu flight which features lie flat seats.

If you’re booking with Delta miles, saver awards don’t really mean anything. They choose pricing out of a hat. Searching for 8 business award seats sometimes Delta prices it at 102,500 miles per person and sometimes 55,000 miles per person even though it’s the same (saver) inventory.

The real gem though is using Virgin Atlantic miles to redeem for these Delta flights. They charge 37,500 miles each way and there are no fuel surcharges.

Here’s the availability that Virgin Atlantic is showing searching for 8 business class award seats, Honolulu – Detroit and availability in the reverse direction seems equally good as well.

American Express and Citibank 30% transfer bonuses to Virgin Atlantic just ended. Amex points, Citi, and Chase all transfer to Virgin Atlantic and in my experience transfer instantly. I’ve also had good luck getting Virgin to put award itineraries on 24 hour holds pending points transfers.

  1. So the accurate non-clickbait headline would be “DTW-HNL for only 37.5k using virgin miles” because DL skypesos doesn’t have award charts and thus the term “saver award” is meaningless on DL

    If you think this is clickbait, you don’t know what clickbait is. “Delta saver award” only has one meaning nowadays – that awards are bookable by partners. This post offers timely notice of incredibly rare award availability.

  6. @Lindy it does not matter which you keep. All accounts are Marriott accounts with Marriott account numbers on the Marriott IT platform

  9. Everything points to this route using the 76P 767 aircraft with standard (not lie flat) domestic first class seats. Look at the seat info on Virgin’s or Delta’s site when trying to book that route.
