Most Star Alliance Airlines Again Bookable Using Aeroplan Miles

Aeroplan has been unable to book award travel on several Star Alliance airlines since late August. I reached out to them to see what was going on and they assured me that the issue was a technical problem, that they were working on it, and that they wanted to get it fixed quickly.

Some members were worried because we’ve seen technical problems go on for quite some time — about a year in the case of Air China at one point.

However Aeroplan seemed confident that wouldn’t be the case here. I wanted to see the proof that this would be fixed quickly, rather than taking them at their word. It turns out that they fixed it quickly (mostly).

You should once again be able to book award travel using Aeroplan miles on Thai Airways, Scandinavian, ANA, SWISS, and the rest of the Star Alliance — except for LOT Polish. A spokesperson tells me, “They’re still having one last issue with LOT and are working on it.”

LOT is the carrier that has been offline the longest. But now that the bulk of Star carriers are back online hopefully even LOT award travel will be restored quickly.

Now that this functionality has been restored it should help give additional confidence to anyone considering the 35% bonus for transferring Marriott points to Aeroplan that’ll run September 13 – 17.
