I do not write about all credit cards that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same).
Hilton is offering a 100% bonus on purchased points through September 20 as long as you buy either 40,000 or 80,000 points.
Hilton usually charges a penny apiece for points, so with this bonus is selling points for half a cent each. That’s tied for the cheapest I’ve ever seen though they do this a few times each year. They’re selling points for just about what they’re worth.
Hilton will let you buy up to 80,000 points per year. Of course since you can combine points for free across multiple accounts that limit is in some sense academic. And for this offer, you can buy 80,000 points even if you’ve already met your yearly maximum.
I value Hilton points at $0.004, since I can pretty much always get half a cent in value at least from Hilton points and I have a preference for holding cash. I’m close to a buyer of Hilton points at half a cent apiece.

You can really stretch Hilton points for their lower-tier redemptions. Even though they no longer have published redemption categories, former category 1 properties are mostly still 5000 points, with 5th night free for elites, so a 5 night stay averages 4000 points per night or ~$22. (There aren’t many of these in the U.S. of course.)
And the top tier redemptions remain capped at 95,000 points or $475 a night purchased with points ($380 with 5th night free for elites). There are hotels out there which cost double that — or even triple.
You won’t get bonus points for paying for purchased Hilton HHonors points with a Hilton co-brand credit card, as the purchase is processed by points.com rather than Hilton.
Ultimately I think many people looking for Hilton Honors points are better off with the strong signup bonus offers — which were just increased — for Hilton cards from American Express.
- The no annual fee Hilton Honors Card from American Express, this is a card I think you want if you’re not a frequent Hilton guest and don’t value the instant status. They’ve got a good initial offer without annual fee cost: a 75,000 point initial bonus after $1000 in eligible purchases within the first 3 months of cardmembership. The offer is up from 50,000 points.
- The Hilton Honors Ascend Card from American Express is a nice improvement on the old Surpass card. American Express is offering an initial bonus of 125,000 Hilton Honors points after $2,000 in eligible purchases with the product in your first 3 months of cardmembership.
Each year you spend $15,000 on the card you’ll earn a weekend night reward, and $40,000 in a calendar year earns Hilton Diamond status through the end of the next calendar year.
- The business version of the Ascend card is the Hilton Honors American Express Business Card
American Express is offering 125,000 Hilton Honors points after you spend $3,000 in eligible purchases in the first 3 months on this card. It has similar benefits to the Ascend card plus another weekend night after you spend an additional $45,000 in purchases on your card in the same calendar year.
- The Hilton Honors American Express Aspire Card is a $450 annual fee card that comes with complimentary Hilton Honors Diamond status and also a free weekend night each cardmember year. $60,000 in purchases in a calendar year earns another weekend night. And right now the initial bonus has been increased to 150,000 points after $4000 spend within 3 months.
