This Video of a Man Trying to Shove His Luggage into the Overhead Has Been Viewed 9 Million Times

We’ve all seen people that bring on bags which simply don’t fit int he overhead, or where they’re one of the last passengers to board and there’s not enough bin space left to fit a full sized carry on.

This passenger wasn’t going to accept either constraint of physics as he pushed, prodded, and shoved.

In the end though it’s just that he was doing it wrong. Watch to the end, because the kind hearted flight attendant who comes over should serve as an inspiration for flight attendants everywhere. She didn’t insist he gate check his bag. She quickly thought through the geometry and told him how he could get the bag into the bin. Success!

  1. On the other hand, this guy would probably have a good laugh, watching me check the oil dipstick under the hood of my car.

  2. Why would a FA tell someone to gate check a bag that just needs to be turned to easily fit in? I have often seen flight attendants help fit bags in the overhead. I have never seen one just come over and demand it be gate checked without attempting to get it to fit.

  3. I’ve logged millions of air miles, but if I was particularly tired, I could be that dude. Maybe his kids kept him awake all night or this is his first time on a plane. Doesn’t it seem rotten that 9M people now think of him (whoever he is) as a doofus? Let the first person who has never done anything stupid make the cutting remarks on social media. That won’t be me.

  4. I think this plane was already in flight and they were preparing to land. You can hear in the background the flight crew making an announcement along the lines of, “Ladies and Gentleman, the captain has now turned on the fasten seatbelt sign as we’ll be landing in a few minutes.” Yes the FA was very helpful, but I doubt she would’ve asked for the bag to be gate checked. 🙂

  5. What BL said…so obviously this guy at once had his bag in there correctly and apparently didn’t know how to put it back… 🙂

  6. Reminds me of the time I witnessed a gentleman rain multiple full-bodied, over-head hammer-fist blows down on his luggage to get it into one of those carry-on measuring frames prior to boarding (after a request from a gate agent). The weirdest part was that he was completely cool and calm about it – such a stark contrast to the physical violence he was meting out on his bag at the time.
