Really Good Australia Business Class Award Availability This Winter

Qantas is notoriously stingy with award space. And US-Australia awards are notoriously tough to get. It’s a long flight, business class does sell, and increasingly airlines are putting smaller Boeing 787s on the route rather than planes that might have excess seats for sale. Getting to and from Australia during winter is even harder.

So it’s notable that right now business class awards space for two passengers is fairly good on Qantas in February and March.

Here’s a look at March award space — skip the Los Angeles – Sydney route and West Coast – Australia is pretty doable in both directions for two business class award seats.

You can fly Qantas, and redeem awards without fuel surcharges. And remember that Qantas award space can be better than what appears on American’s website.

  1. Anyone know what changed with booking QF on Alaska? It used to be that when there was availability on Nexus or Expertflyer, you could manually push it through via phone even when there was nothing on AS website. Now they tell me if it’s not bookable site, no luck. Anyone have any tricks?

  3. Last time (s few months back) there was lots of qantas availability but could not be booked with Aadvantage miles. Are these definitely available to be booked this eat?

  4. FWIW, I flew DFW–>SYD in business last month. I booked 10 months out using AA miles. This and other flights showed up on the Qantas site but not on AA. I was able to book by calling AA.

  6. If you spell Qantas with a ‘u’, you are not worthy of the long-haul J award inventory you seek.
