Bonus Purchasing IHG Rewards Club Points Through June 15

IHG Rewards Club – the loyalty program for Intercontinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and related brands — is offering a 100% bonus on purchased points through June 15. This applies to purchases of 5000 or more points.

What’s even better is that IHG has also dropped the regular price of points to a penny apiece, so with a 100% bonus you’re buying points for $0.005 each. They’ve also increased the number of points you can buy in a year to 100,000.

They do make you validate your IHG Rewards Club account information. I’ve checked a few accounts and they were offered a 100% bonus.

Here’s what pricing looks like maxing out the offer:

The points are processed by Points.com so this doesn’t count as hotel spend for credit card bonuses.

Personally I’d rather hold cash than points at this price and only buy points with a specific use in mind, especially since it’s long been possible to buy points at 7/10ths of a cent apiece whenever one wishes and sometimes less. The gain by acting right away is marginal.

And I’d rather pick up 85,000 points from the new IHG® Rewards Club Premier Credit Card — 80,000 points after $2000 spend within 3 months and 5,000 points after you add your first authorized user and make a purchase in the first three months — the annual fee is $89 and reports are that this card is not subject to ‘5/24‘. It also comes with elite status, an annual complimentary reward night, and fourth night free on redemptions four nights or longer.

Still you likely won’t get hurt at this price. I consider it a good deal. And it’s tied for the lowest price I’ve seen.

  1. It’s actually a pretty great offer if you have the IHG Premier card. You pay 0.5 cents per point and get 25% off for a four night rewards stay. In addition rewards nights have no taxes — using 20,000 points for a $100 a night stay is better than break-even for even a one-night stay given that the $100 a night will total $110 to $120 with tax. Layer on to that the possibility of a fourth night free and a 10% points rebate with an Ambassador membership — if you stay or like to stay at IHG properties, this deal can save a ton.

  2. Are the original 80,000. IHG points by applying for IHG credit card issued by Chase and part of other Chase travel points?

  3. I looked up a couple properties (a high end IC in Paris and a Crowne Plaza in Barcelona and in both cases it could save a decent amount of money, a third or more… Hmmm… They’re not giving much time to decide though.
