Plastiq Offers a Deal to Pay Your Rent By Credit Card and Earn Points

I receive compensation for content and many links on this blog. Citibank is an advertising partner of this site, as is American Express, Chase, Barclays and Capital One. Any opinions expressed in this post are my own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by my advertising partners. I do not write about all credit cards that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). Terms apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.

A couple of days ago I wrote about a new service that lets you pay rent by credit card for just a 1.5% fee. The trick is that both landlord and tenant have to sign up with the service since they make payments electronically rather than by check.

Still that’s a much better price than Plastiq will usually charge — 2.5%. Plastiq charges your credit card and will send a check if they don’t have the recipient set up for direct deposit.

I love competition, though. Because Plastiq is already out with a lower rate promotion to lock in rent payments.

First-time Plastiq customers who make rent or real estate payments scheduling 6 payments will get a 2% fee. Your first rent payment must be submitted by May 31.

They flag “use any card” for this offer. This actually means,

  • Mastercard: Any Rent/Real Estate payment
  • Discover: Any Rent/Real Estate payment
  • Visa: Personal Rent, Business Lease, HOA, but no Mortgage payments
  • Amex: Personal Rent, but no Business Lease, HOA, or Mortgage payments

In order to take advantage of this offer you must use this link so the correct code gets applied.

  1. I’ve used Plastiq in the past and I’ve had no issues paying my rent on time. This is less of deal than the previous one were they waive the 2.5% fee for two out of six repeating rent payments. With the previous offer you pay an effective rate of 1.6% over six payments. I hope they bring back that promotion. The Blue for Business Plus American Express card I have earns two points on all charges. With this credit card I could buy Membership Rewards points at .0083 cents each. I could theoretically wait for a transfer bonus to earn even more value with this strategy.

  2. 1.How about a co-op maintenance payment: where does that fit in. Can I do it with VisA Card?

    2. Will Urban allow a co-op maintenance payment?
