Marriott and Starwood Just Launched a New Promotion

With Marriott and Starwood moving ever closer towards combining into a single loyalty program, it’s telling that they’ve just launched their new promotion for spring and into summer and the promotions for each program are nearly identical: Marriott Rewards MegaBonus and SPG More Nights, More Starpoints.

You need to register for each promotion (Marriott, Starwood) by June 30. Earning runs April 16 through July 20.

  • Marriott offers 750 points per night starting with your third night during the promotion period, up to 36,000 bonus points. (Marriott ExecuStay, Marriott Executive Apartments and Marriott Vacation Club® owner-occupied weeks are excluded.)

  • Starwood is offering 250 points per night starting with your third night during the promotion period, up to 12000 points total, at participating hotels.

Since Starwood points transfer to Marriott at a ratio of 1:3, the earning and caps here are equivalent. The major difference is which hotels are excluded from each promotion.

You should register for both because:

  1. Earning remains separate in each of the Starwood and Marriott programs
  2. Even if you don’t expect to stay with one or the other chain, if a stay creeps up you will never remember to register later.
  3. The links are right here in this post and it takes mere seconds to set it and forget it.

Promotions which require registration are a way for programs to limit their cost to only reward people who know about a deal. Make sure you’re one of those people.

  1. Seems like a pretty paltry bonus. Guess hotel occupancy rates are pretty healthy and of course it’s expected heading into busier travel seasons.

  2. @Gary if you stay 3 nights at an SPG hotel do you get 250 points or do you get 750 points (meaning you get points for the first 2 nights after you stay 3 nights?

    Thanks for your help!

  3. Spot-on, Andrew! I join you in yelling, “BIG FAT WHOOP!”
Jamie, it clearly says, “you’ll earn 250 bonus Starpoints for each night you spend at participating SPG hotels and resorts beginning on your third night.” The first 2 nights are “qualifying nights.”

  4. Appears this promo on the promo link when you log into your Marriot account doesn’t see to show the details of the promo.

  5. Any idea when the bonus starts if you have 3 rooms booked. Would it be after the first night (because of the 3 rooms) or after the third night?

  6. Have they decided yet if SPG Lifetime Platinum members will keep their status? These promos aren’t exactly exciting.
