Europeans Can Buy Business Class, Fly First Instead

British Airways is back with their buy business, fly first promotion.

British Airways business class isn’t a very good product so if you can get into first you want to.

Here are the key terms:

  • Business class tickets booked into R, D, C, or J are eligible (notably deeper discount I fares are not eligible)
  • Must purchase by March 30, and travel outbound by April 16 with all return travel complete by April 22
  • You have to fly on aircraft with a first class cabin in both directions except that you can fly one way between London City and New York JFK and still request the upgrade in the other direction between New York and Heathrow.

Flights must be booked through a travel agent or with British Airways by phone, it cannot be booked online. Tokyo and Doha are excluded as well as flights between London Gatwick and Barbados, Bermuda, Cancun, Fort Lauderdale, St. Lucia, Oakland, Orlando, Port of Spain and Tampa.

Only residents of some European countries are eligible — UK, Belgium, Germany, Greece, Denmark, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway Sweden, Spain and Switzerland — however Greek residents aren’t eligible for destinations outside North America and Norwegian residents are only eligible for destinations outside North America. And you only get to upgrade in one direction.

This promotion has been live since last month but Robb just prompted me about it this morning.

  1. Poor reporting Gary.
    Upgrade is only 1 way!

    A. “Your free upgrade to First is available one-way on either the outbound or the inbound part of your journey; “

    B. No mention that you have to fly on a route with First Cabin on both directions.

Please help by bring more precise if you’re going to try promote BA for them ! Am sure they don’t need to be misquoted!

  2. What a terrible promo! Who is going to care with all those restrictions? For their crap product it should be more inclusive. BA is a joke

  3. On the other hand, if BA business, er Club World or something, we’re better, it wouldn’t be so easy to buy PE and upgrade with miles.

  4. @Jamesay — actually you need to read the post. Because both are there.

“You have to fly on aircraft with a first class cabin in both directions except that you can fly one way between London City and New York JFK and still request the upgrade in the other direction between New York and Heathrow”

“And you only get to upgrade in one direction.”

    Apology accepted.

  5. Who remembers BA’s long running ad slogan ” world’s favorite airline ” . How sad and what a joke BA’s business class has become as well as it seems the whole airline itself . Hence, I for one have let fall by the wayside my Executive club Gold level and will let slide the Silver after I am downgraded and then Bronze etc etc. Forget about Brexit, instead Ba should be euthanized first.
