Police Say Peeing All Over the Plane Isn’t What Got This Man Arrested

The San Luis Obispo Tribune carries what may be the best headline ever about a Spirit Airlines flight from Fort Myers, Florida to Detroit on Thursday night: “He reeked of alcohol and peed all over the plane. But that’s not what got him arrested, police say”

The man reportedly drank at the airport prior to his flight. He “nodded off in a chair by his gate” but things began to go downhill when he woke up. A gate agent walked by and smelled alcohol but allowed him to board anyway. That’s always a good idea.

However once on board “the gate agent received a call from the flight attendant that the passenger had urinated all over the plane’s toilet, as well as on the floor.” At least he went to the lavatory instead of just targeting other passengers like on jetBlue. And United. And American.

Incidentally recent stories cast this story of Matt Lauer doing something similar in a new light.

Our Spirit Airlines hero was asked to leave the plane but he reportedly became “‘belligerent,’ cursing as he left.” Airport police were called. An officer smelled alcohol on the man, who then demanded a breathlyzer. He was ordered to leave the concourse but demanded that police first “put the bracelets on” him. So they did. He was taken to jail and booked and “told not to return to airport property for one year.”
