I Had No Idea: Chase Sapphire Reserve Discount Golf Benefit

I receive compensation for many links on this blog. You don’t have to use these links, but I am grateful to you if you do. American Express, Citibank, Chase, Capital One and other banks are advertising partners of this site. Any opinions expressed in this post are my own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by my advertising partners. I do not write about all credit cards that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same).

Chase Sapphire Reserve®

The Chase Sapphire Reserve® has a fantastic signup bonus (50,000 points after $4000 spend within 3 months), valuable points (that are worth 1.5 cents apiece towards travel or transfer 1:1 into various airlines and hotel programs), earn quickly (triple points on travel and dining) and comes with great benefit (the most generous Priority Pass Select for airport lounge access).

But there are myriad benefits that go more or less unnoticed, including several that are included with the card as a Visa Infinite product. There are only a handful of other Visa Infinite cards issued in the United States. One of those benefits is discounted golf.

Citibank used to offer a free golf benefit with its premium Prestige Card but that was eliminated along with several other key benefits last year.

Golf lovers rejoice though: Points Miles and More points out a benefit I didn’t even know existed. Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardmembers get $99 rounds of golf from Troon Golf Rewards.

You have to enter your card number to validate eligibility then you’ll be able to see details of the program.

Here are the benefits:

  • Ability to reserve tee times at participating Troon Privé private clubs at a rate of $99 (+ Tax where applicable) per player per round.

  • Cardholders may bring up to three guests at the same rate

  • Can reserve each each course up to two times per year at this rate

  • Receive Silver status in the Troon Rewards program. (Existing Troon Rewards members who have already attained Silver status or higher will be upgraded to the next membership level.) With the Silver, Gold, and Platinum membership levels, the cardholder receives a 10%, 15% and 20% discount respectively on eligible golf fees or merchandise purchases.

Here are the participating clubs:

Fees may normally run $200 – $300 per person, so the ability to book at $99 is a great discount. It’s not free but it’s real savings multiplied out across a foursome and used throughout the year.

Not every Visa Infinite-offered benefit is a benefit of every Visa Infinite product. Points Miles and More reports that this works with the Ritz-Carlton Rewards Credit Card as well. Note that Visa Signature cardholders can get Silver status but not the $99 rounds benefit.

  1. I just looked into taking advantage of this offer at the Naples FL golf club using my Chase Sapphire Reserve card and the golf club had no idea what I was talking about. I then called the Chase VISA concierge and they had no information. I then tried the phone number for the Troon VISA golf rewards and was connected with the concierge again. What gives with this benefit?

  2. I tried to book the golf online first but the Troon website would not accept my credit card #. I confirmed with Chase that I did indeed have the Infinite card.

  3. @Lynn – I had no problem with the Troon website. It recognized my Chase Sapphire Reserve Visa Infinite card and allowed the reservation request.

  4. My father tried with his reserve card as well and didn’t work, then he called and they didn’t know anything either….

  5. I was very surprised when I stumbled across this and couldn’t find anything else written about it anywhere or any personal experiences. Sounds like there may be a few glitches for some but it accepted both my CSR and Ritz cards no problem. Interested to hear other’s experiences when actually booking (have no opportunity to do so for my husband right now)

Thanks for the link too 🙂

  6. Worked for my CSR.

On a different note, has anyone tried with an AU card? Would be a steal if those worked as well. Primary user rounds alone will make up for my AF each year. Thanks for the share, Gary!

  7. So the king Kamehameha club is included. This is the Magnum PI club 🙂
Just showing my age. Seems like a good deal. I usually have mixed booking experiences with these odd benefits.
