Hilton Wants to Give You 90 Days of Free Gold or Diamond Status

Have an important stay coming up where elite status — club lounge access or breakfast, a room upgrade — would be nice? Hilton will give you free 90 days of status if you have elite status with any chain.

And many credit cards come with hotel elite status. Marriott even gives status to United Gold elites and above. So United Gold or the Club Carlson Visa now can be said to also come with 90 days of Hilton status, in a sense.

You’ll get 90 days of status and then you can keep it through March 2019:

  • If you’re matched to Gold then complete 4 stays in 90 days
  • If you’re matched to Diamond then complete 8 stays in 90 days

All you have to do is complete a form. Give them your name and Hilton Honors number, tell them the status you have in another program, and upload .jpg ‘proof’:

  1. That you have status with that program (“a screenshot of your current account status or your membership card”)

  2. And that you’ve stay in a hotel at least once in the last 12 months.

Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number.

Status only takes a few days to update. Hilton has offered this on and off for years. The terms and conditions have always suggested that it was targeted, but it never has been. It’s an offer you can take advantage of only once, however the terms actually say it’s once in “the lifetime of the promotion” rather than your lifetime or the program’s lifetime.

And I just love this button:

Terms and conditions:

Offer is valid for recipient only. Invitation and offer is non-transferable and status matches cannot be bought or sold. Offer only redeemable once for the lifetime of the promotion.

To match your status with Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond status, you must provide your Hilton Honors account number and proof of current equivalent tier status with Starwood Preferred Guest, Marriott Rewards, IHG Rewards Club, Hyatt Gold Passport, Choice Privileges, or other hotel loyalty program. Blue, Silver, and equivalent statuses are not eligible.

Acceptable forms of status validation include a screenshot of your current account status or your membership card. Acceptable forms of stay validation include a screenshot of your previous reservations or hotel receipt, redacting any personal information other than your name and membership number. We accept .jpg files only. Do not send any personal information (including your phone number, address, social security number, date of birth, user name, passwords, or credit card information).

Hilton reserves the right to downgrade or remove individuals from the program at any time upon submitting any fraudulent documentation for validation. Must be a Hilton Honors member to participate in the promotion.

After registering and tier status is validated, Hilton Honors elite tier status will be valid for the following 90 days. Hilton Honors members must complete four stays at Hilton Portfolio hotels during the Promotional Period to maintain Gold Elite status through March 31, 2019. Hilton Honors members who have been granted diamond status match must complete eight stays at Hilton Portfolio hotels during the Promotional Period to maintain Diamond Elite status through March 31, 2019. Thereafter, standard tier requirements must be met to maintain elite status.

Please allow up to 5 business days for your upgraded elite status to be reflected in your Hilton Honors account profile. Hilton Honors Gold and Diamond status members may choose from a variety of on-property benefits, which vary by hotel and are subject to availability. 1. Hilton will give status to anyone, probably even dead people. Either through status matches, their new credit card or any other conceivable means. They are truly cheapening their status.

  2. First prize – a Cadillac Eldorado
Second prize – a set of steak knives
Third prize – Hilton Diamond and you’re fired

  3. i don’t think it’s all bad.

if you’re status in other programs keeps you staying non Hilton, but you have some points accrued with Hilton, it be comes an attractive opportunity to enrol, and burn, at Diamond.

  4. I’m currently Hilton gold. So I’d like to get diamond.
Do I need to have the top tier status with Marriott spg or IHG in order to get this promo?
Would IHG platinum work to get Hilton diamond?

  5. My dog is now Diamond but he viciously resents 100.000 to 300,000 points to redeem for a night at a Hampton Inn Hilton Garden inn etc
    Woof

  6. As a Hilton Diamond member by stays the past 4 years, this always frustrates me. I guess I cant complain as I have been status matched to Hyatt and Marriott as well in the past….

  7. As an “earned Diamond” for the past 15 years of private travel I really resent giving away the farm like this.

There are so many bloody Diamonds that it means nothing in North America or even in parts of Europe.

At least when I travel to Asia, Africa or Eastern Europe the Diamond status has some value. But it appears not for long.

I think I hitched my wagon to the wrong horse.

  8. Thanks Gary, I just matched IHG Hilton Diamond. Been Diamond before and it’s worth it because of Hilton’s large footprint and they’ve always treated me well. Thanks again for the useful information
