Southwest Airlines Made a 16 Year Old Girl’s Birthday Special During the Atlanta Power Outage

Planes are packed full of people, some of whom are downright awful. Planes get delayed and our plans are ruined. Airline employees may want to help but they’re frustrated too — by all of the people giving them grief when they didn’t cause anyone’s problems to begin with.

So the little things, person to person, that add a little kindness to travel are extra meaningful. And where flight crew are involved it’s often crew at Southwest. Or Southwest ramp agents like the one last year who saved Christmas.

This week Southwest Airlines made a girl’s 16th birthday special. That alone might not be notable, even in the face of adversity as a result of the Atlanta airport power outage. Southwest Airlines flight attendants pay attention to passengers, have fun with their flights, and often find a way to go the extra mile.

Singing ‘Happy Birthday’ is nice but fairly mundane. Turning down the cabin lights, having everyone turn on their reading lights, so that the girl could ‘blow out the candles’ after the song. That’s just brilliant.

Happy birthday to her!
