Here’s The Damage Inside Puerto Rico’s Airport from Hurricane Maria

Hurricane Maria is dumping three feet of water on Puerto Rico. It’s taken out much of the power on the island. San Juan International is closed today, hopefully re-opening tomorrow but we’ll learn more soon. That seems optimistic. Other airports are closed too.

Via Points Fitness here’s video of San Juan airport during the hurricane.

He also shares video he describes as United staff assessing the damage to San Juan’s terminal B.

Massive water filtration through the roof has caused essentially terminals B1-B11 to be covered in water aside from broken glass windows.

It’s going to be a long way to recovery for the island. Nothing like this has ever happened, and not just power, but communications in general are terrible.

Hopefully Ricardo, the blogger at Points Fitness, is able to reach the members of his family on the island that he hasn’t yet been in contact with.

  1. @ Gary — I feel so sad for the people of Puerto Rico. It has just been one thing after the other for so many years. Things can’t get much worse. I have been there countless times, and seeing this makes me cry.

  2. Is underground electric an option for P.R? Something to consider during the rebuild. How is the U.S. (FEMA) going to pay for Hurricanes Harvey AND Irma AND Maria this year? SIgnificant expense and bailouts required. I suspect most Americans are unaware of the duration of these costs.

  3. Looking for my brother Tom E Scarborough. He was staying at the Sherton. in in Cauguas, PR. Do not know they evacuated during hurricane. He has medical problems. Will be out of heart medications. Please contact if you know any information. lesschen10@gmail.com. Thank ‘You for information.
