Starwood’s New Targeted Offer: What (If Anything) Did You Get?

Starwood has a new targeted promotion for stays between September 15 and December 15 (must register by November 15).

Lucky from One Mile at a Time got 7,500 bonus points after two stays (2500 for the first, 5000 for the second). Nice.

I wasn’t so ‘lucky’ — I get 7500 points after four stays, and don’t get any points at all until my second stay.

It’s always worth registering, in this case if only to find out what your offer is. I value Starpoints at 2.3 cents apiece so 7500 points is worth $172.50 to me. That’s not a bad rebate on top of usual points earning and any other quarterly promotion Starwood announces for, say, two 2 night stays (in Lucky’s case).

You want to be registered in any case because it’s easiest to do it when the offer is in front of you, you’ll never remember to go back and register later if it turns out you had more Starwood says coming up than you expected.

Terms and conditions for my offer:

Eligible members must register between August 15, 2017, and November 15, 2017, 11:59 p.m. ET (the “Registration Period”). Member can earn 2,000 bonus Starpoints® after the second (2nd) eligible paid stay, 2,500 bonus Starpoints after the third (3rd) eligible paid stay and 3,000 bonus Starpoints after the fourth (4th) eligible paid stay. As part of this Promotion, member may earn a maximum of 7,500 total bonus Starpoints for four eligible stays from September 15, 2017, through December 15, 2017 (the “Promotion Period”). This Promotion is not transferable. Bookings made prior to the Promotion Period are eligible, but only eligible stays consumed during the Promotion Period will earn a bonus.

A “stay” is a stay of one or more consecutive nights at the same SPG® Participating Hotel by an SPG Member who (A) provides his/her SPG Member number at the time of reservation or at check-in; (B) pays an eligible rate; and (C) stays in one of the reserved guest rooms. If an SPG Member checks out of a guest room and then checks back in to a guest room at the same SPG Participating Hotel on the same day, it will count as a single stay for purposes of calculating stays.

An “eligible stay” is a stay with at least one (1) eligible paid night at any of the over 1,300 hotels and resorts in the SPG program, paying an eligible paid rate during the Promotion period. An “eligible rate” is any rate that is eligible to earn Starpoints in the Starwood Preferred Guest® program. Free Night Award stays and Cash & Points stays are not eligible toward this Promotion. Hotels and resorts in the SPG program can be found at spg.com/terms under section 1.2. A description of eligible stays and eligible rates can be found at spg.com/terms under section 2.1. An SPG Member may only earn Starpoints, Eligible Nights and Eligible Stays for up to three guest rooms during any eligible stay if he/she stays in one of the reserved guest rooms and pays an Eligible Rate for all of the guest rooms. Please note that certain prepaid rooms where the booking is made through a third party (including but not limited to travelocity.com, expedia.com and booking.com) are not eligible rates and do not earn Starpoints or qualify toward promotional earnings.

Bonus Starpoints will be credited to the member’s account within 2–4 weeks of the stay posting to the member’s Starwood Preferred Guest account following each second eligible stay.

This Promotion is nontransferable and void for Marriott International, Inc., employees. This Promotion may be combined with other Starpoints or Free Night Award promotions in market during the same time; however, earnings are exclusive of each other.

  1. Plat with 19 stays this year and I got nothing while a family member who wasn’t done a single stay EVER got the 2k, 2k, 2k offer for 2,4,6 stays. VERY lame and frustrating. I understand the idea of special promotions and targeting certain people but throwing your more frequent customers at least some kind of offer seems like a good idea. I guess Marriott/SPG feel otherwise.

  2. Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this specific promotion. Discover more ways to earn Starpoints® on SPG® Dashboard. Log in to find current global promotions, bonus earning activities and exclusive offers.

  3. Double night & stay credits on stays between 9/15-12/15. I’m a Plat currently at 20 stays/32 nights on the year.

  4. I got “You’ll earn double elite-qualifying credit on all your stays between September 15, 2017, and December 15, 2017 — with no earning limits.”

Spouse got “Unfortunately, you are not eligible for this specific promotion.”

  5. Stayed over 150 nights this year in SPG as an consultant and SPG ambassador Plat member, and got nothing from this offer. Always hate SPG treats loyal customers so bad. Will switch to get Hyatt Globalist with their recent challenge, and check out if Hyatt is good enough for long term travel stay.

  6. SPG gold from Marriott gold, 0 SPG nights this year. Bonus points might have enticed me to SPG, but I got only 2x EQ nights/stays, useless for me.

  7. SPG Plat from Marriott, no offer for me either. 9 stays over on the SPG side this year. No need to move any others.

  8. Double stay/night credits. In my email preview just saw stays count double (and I have 24 stays ytd so that part is worthless) but the nights are useful.

  10. I got the same offer as Lucky – 2,500 plus 5,000. I’m Plat, with 38 nights and 25 stays YTD.

  11. DH got zip. I got the 2nights/2 stays. I am assuming this is worthless to me since I get Gold status anyway because of my AmEx Platinum/Marriott Gold? Right?

  12. Platinum currently at 12 stays and 22 nights on the year.. Double night & stay credits on stays between 9/15-12/15.

  13. Myself. Spg Plat 75. 20 stays YTD & 46 nights YTD. Nothing.

MrsWT73. SPG Gold. 1 stay YTD & 3 nights YTD. Nothing.

    Posting from Canada.

  14. Platinum, 23 stays/43 nights ytd. No offers. Ever. The first few dozen times, there was an element of amusement on being bypassed on every offer, but the amusement has grown old. Even a crappy offer would at least provide some variety. I’ll stick it out at this point to see what the new program brings next year, but this doesn’t lend itself to any sentiments of loyalty.

  15. “You are not eligible for this promotion….”. SPG will get no business from me….Loyalty goes both ways, SPG still hasn’t figured that out yet….

  16. I have 17 SPG nights YTD.

I got the double elite qualifying….

Of course, I’m already Marriott Platinum, so that’s completely useless to me. You’d think a “targeted” offer wouldn’t miss by such a wide mark.

  17. SPG Gold. Nothing, would’ve pushed to plat if I got the 2x offer as I’m only 5 nights away and have 3 stays in the next two weeks that I would’ve switched to SPG .

  18. Platinum at 15 stays and 28 nights. I got…stay 4 stays and get 4k points. Stay 8 stays and get 8k and stay 12 and get 12k. Not really great but I rarely get targeted for anything. I wish I had gotten double night/stay credit.

  19. Platinum with Marriott so Platinum with SPG. Got the I double elite qualifying stays and nights. Useless to me.

  20. Plat with 50 nights ytd got a double nights/stay offer between 9/15 and 12/15 no use since they won’t count for anything since I’m already renewed for next year 🙁

  21. 2x elite qualifying credit. Worthless, I’m already Plat qualified for next year via Marriott.

    Lamest promo I can recall.

  22. 2x for stays/night. Great offer for me. Currently have 3 stays / 5 nights and most of that is from the CC annual nights/stays bonus. Will be able to make plat in 11 stays.

  23. Received nothing and when I called the CSR said I should feel bad fo her bc she doesn’t make enough money to travel and get any status. Really!!!!

  24. Currently SPG Platinum and have just 17 stays and 28 nights thus far in 2017. I have been staying at Marriotts as well this year (5 stays, 9 nights) so might not keep Platinum status unless they allow you to combines stays/nights.

With my promo, I will receive 2500 on first stay and 5000 on second stay.
