American Express has an ‘Amex Offer’ of $160 off a purchase of $800 or more made directly with Delta by October 7. If you buy flights, they must originate in the U.S.

This is technically targeted, in other words it may not be available to everyone, but it seems to be available quite broadly. Just log into your American Express account, scroll down to the bottom of the screen to see it. Make sure you’ve selected the card you want to add it to and select to add it to your account.

I added it to my Platinum Card by American Express since it earns 5 points per dollar on airfare. I may not use it, I don’t fly Delta often but I have flown Delta. And better to have it in my account in case I do have a need to spend $800 or more with Delta over the next two months.

In addition to flights you can buy club memberships, pay for upgrades or checked bags or seats, and even book Delta Vacations packages at Delta.com.

When I first saw the offer written about this morning I checked my account and it wasn’t there. In fact no Amex Offers were. But that glitch has been solved and I had no problem seeing and adding the offer.

Terms and conditions:


Enrollment limited. Offer valid for purchases made directly with Delta Air Lines through delta.com, Fly Delta App, and US reservation telephone line.

Flights must originate in the U.S., including U.S. territories and purchases must be in USD to qualify.

Offer valid only for purchases where Delta Air Lines is the merchant of record, such as airfare, fare upgrades, seat selection fees, baggage fees, and Sky Club® memberships.

Purchases such as Delta Shuttle® and Delta Vacation® packages are included if purchased through delta.com.

Excludes the following: (i) purchases in-person at the airport, lounges, and sales offices, (ii) purchases on-board flights for food, beverage, and WiFi, (iii) stand alone hotel bookings and car rentals through delta.com, (v) purchases through third parties or affiliated agents, and (vi) Delta Cargo, Delta Private Jets® & On Demand Charter services, Delta Flight Museum, SkyMiles® Marketplace purchases, SkyMiles Experiences™, SkyMiles Cruises. Offer is non-transferable.

Must add offer to Card and use same Card to redeem. Limit 1 statement credit(s) per American Express® online account. Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 10/7/2017, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase.

Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items from your qualifying purchase have been provided/shipped by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. For example, your transaction will not qualify if it is not made directly with the merchant. In addition, in most cases, you may not receive the statement credit if your transaction is made with an electronic wallet or through a third party or if the merchant uses a mobile or wireless card reader to process it.   1. Extremely upset with Amex. None of these promos are available for me ever. I spend a lot of money on Del;ta and that would be a good one to have. Maybe time to focus my expenditures on Chase and leave Amex wanting me back.

  2. Yup, no offer for me either, on any of my 4 cards. My Plat card is the business version, maybe that has something to do with it. But then I rarely see the offers that are blogged about…AMEX clearly values me less…

  3. I have an Amex Business Platinum, and I never get these good offers, and didn’t get this one. Although this is a business card, and they warn you that you should never use it for personal expenses, my offers are almost always for personal expenses (i.e., clothes, consumer products, etc.), and rarely things I can use for business.

  4. THANK YOU! I have Platinum Amex, Delta Reserve Amex and SPG Amex… it showed up ONLY under SPG for me and I joined. Thank you, Gary, your updates actually DO bring real value to people who travel.

  6. Also asking about DL gift cards?? I literally bought a $900 ticket yesterday before seeing your blog. It’s annoying AX doesn’t alert about these. But if I can buy gift cards I’ll definitely use them

  7. I have the Amex Premier Rewards card and I viewed all 88 offers and did not see an offer for Delta Airlines.

  8. Gary, I don’t see it for my Delta Gold card or Starwood card. How did you get the “glitch” resolved?

  9. I’m afraid to try on a large DL GC purchase on my own…am waiting for others’ experiences/reports…
