7500 Point Stackable Bonus for Hilton Stay Paid With Amex Platinum

I receive compensation for content and many links on this blog. You don’t have to use these links, but I am grateful to you if you do. American Express, Citibank, Chase, Capital One and other banks are advertising partners of this site. Any opinions expressed in this post are my own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by my advertising partners. I do not write about all credit cards that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same).

Hilton is promiscuous, they partner with both Citbank on a Visa and American Express for their co-brand credit cards — at least for now, since the chain expects to pull the trigger on a new credit card deal this quarter.

Between November and January they offered a 5000 point bonus for paying for a stay by Visa.

Now they have a 7500 point bonus for paying for a stay with a Platinum Card by American Express.

  • Valid for US cardholders only who have registered for their complimentary Hilton Honors Gold status provided by their card

  • Earn bonus one time on a minimum two night stay at Hilton Honors property excluding Hampton Inns in Mainland China.

  • Valid for stays May 7 through August 7 (check out by August 7)

  • Registration required

You’ll want to use this on your least expensive eligible stay because credit card earning is only 1 Membership Rewards point per dollar. American Express increased hotel earning to 5 points per dollar for bookings made through American Express Travel but those do not earn points (they’re allowing their booking commissions to pay for the extra points earn). American Express offers hotel elite status — and now works with Hilton on a bonus — but you give up the benefits of both if you book through American Express for the extra points.

I value 1 Membership Rewards point at 1.8 cents. The opportunity cost of the spend is either:

This bonus is stackable with their current promotion Go More Get More which is itself stackable with the bonus for booking through their app.

  1. One variable I would add to the math for Amex card holders is the one-time Amex Offer promo for a $35 statement credit ($175 spend required) for Hilton Garden Inn or Hampton Inn Hotels (valid 4/17 to 7/17). Amex card holders might find this via their online account (see the Amex Offers and Benefits section of your main statement online) or via the twitter sync method. Details can be found here: https://sync.americanexpress.com/twitter/offerterms/F155CFBF8A75C45CA8FFDD70E38D2ED0C

  2. Gary,
Only with Amex platinum credit cards correct? I have a Hilton Amexco credit card. Am I better off using the Hilton Amexco or platinum Amexco credit card?

  3. What are the odds I could trigger this by adding my Amex Platinum for incidentals and making a purchase during a 2-night stay (that is otherwise covered by my Corporate Card, which happens to
be Amex but is not Platinum I am required to pay with?)

  4. Hilton Honors shows yet again why it is the most rewarding and vibrant loyalty program out there right now….in fact, not just right now, but for at least the last 2-3 years.

This is a repeat offer, and if it works like the last time (Q4 2016), then one will earn the bonus points by paying with ANY AMEX card and not just the Plat or Biz Plat. Below, I show it as a line item in the points that I earned last October after a paid stay at Hilton FLL:

    2016 HH3 DOUBLE POINTS OFFER: 12058
    2016 HH3 MOBILE APP OFFER: 12058

50% BONUS ON BASE POINTS: 6029
    DIAMOND VIP BONUS – 50% 2016: 6029

I paid then with the AMEX Surpass and I suggest you do too this time around (or with the no-fee HH AMEX card if that’s what you have)…You’ll still earn the bonus from this offer, in addition to earning the large bonus for on-property spending on the co-brand cards, thereby avoiding the “opportunity cost”. Just be sure you enrolled your AMEX Plat HHonors Gold status.

  5. Targeted?

“Oops! Looks like you aren’t eligible for this particular offer, but we have plenty more where that came from.”

  6. @dcs – it all depends how you value hhonors points… personally I’ll go with the upcoming Marriott offer since 7500 hhonors points doesn’t do me much good

  7. “Oops! Looks like you aren’t eligible for this particular offer, but we have plenty more where that came from.”

  8. Earn lots of points to stay at a sub-standard collection of hotels with minimal benefits != vibrant

  9. @UA-NYC

It’s definitely not a sub-standard collection of hotels. I’d say Hilton is a baseline, with Hyatt and SPG above, and IHG and Marriott below. But you can differ there.

However, minimal benefits? That’s objectively wrong. Hilton offers the most rewarding mid-tier elite level and the easiest one to achieve

  10. Across the globe, the ‘Hilton’ name is synonymous with the “hospitality business’ just like ‘Fedex’ has entered the lexicon to mean ‘express courier service’.

Travel bloggers with their sycophants built totally bogus standards by which they judged hospitality companies and associated loyalty programs for years, and have stuck to those standards even after they’ve been completely discredited by the demise of the two programs that they’d touted as “best in the business”….

Anyone who can stand there and sneer at Hilton and Hilton Honors, knowing what’s become of HGP and SPG, is stupid beyond redemption.

  11. @Robert — No, it does not depend on how one values the points. Since you seem confused, let me help out. The 7500 HH points are just the icing on the cake. Hilton Honors is running a 2x (3x for Diamonds) promo at the moment that is stackable with this and other promos. In fact, as a HH Diamond, I would earn points from every item listed in my post on May 8, 2017 at 11:12 am. As you can see the 7500 is just one of eight numbers and it is not even the largest…

    But to each his/her own!

  12. +2 to the others who received this message (I upgraded my Hilton status to Gold with AMEX Platinum link)

Looks like you aren’t eligible for this particular offer, but we have plenty more where that came from. Check out My Offers Tracker to see all your latest offers. And of course if you have any questions, give us a call.

  13. @Joeheg — If you just “upgraded [your] Hilton status to Gold with AMEX Platinum link”, then what happened is that the enrollment has not yet been processed, since it is not instantaneous (I do not know of any status through a CC that is). You can either just be patient and wait until you get confirmation of enrollment or call AMEX to see about getting it fast-tracked if you have an eligible stay coming up. In any case, this is a one-time bonus that you can collect on any eligible stay before August 7 — i.e., there is plenty of time to just be patient to let the enrollment hit the books…

  14. @DCS, I did wait until after I received the notice from Hilton showing my Gold status before trying to send the online form. However, I received a notice from AMEX this morning saying that my upgrade to gold with Hilton had been processed. I just tried the form again and was successful. I do have a Hilton stay booked for next weekend so this will be helpful when stacked with the current double point promotion and the AMEX offer for Hampton Inn.

Now, take advantage of a 20% off Hilton Resorts offer exclusive to American Express® Card Members.

  15. As others mentioned, I initially got the “oops” as well. Since we get Diamond through credit card spend, I never bothered to register for the complementary Gold. Did that and, after the message came through, it worked as it did for others.

We have a stay in Portland in May. $480 for 3 nights. So, using the Amex Plat works out better than using the Hilton Visa card on points for this one.
