NEW DELTA BENEFIT: Listen to Onboard Trump Rant, Get a Free Flight

Despite donating big to Democrats this cycle, Delta’s CEO was on the Trump train. The hope: that a Donald Trump presidency could revive protectionism, shut out Gulf carriers from US markets, reducing consumer choice and increasing fares.

The “Trump is good for Delta” mantra likely didn’t trickle down to Delta’s front line. However, an offensive inflight rant was allowed to proceed and go viral. Delta apologized for not taking swifter action.

In contrast over at United a pilot made clear that politics wasn’t welcome onboard.

Now that the Delta anti-Hillary Trump Victory Rant has gone viral, Delta is taking action. The perpetrator is banned from Delta and all the passengers onboard get refunded.

As you may have heard by now, last week a video began circulating around the internet showing a disruptive passenger on board a Delta flight. This individual displayed behavior that was loud, rude and disrespectful to his fellow customers. After questioning the customer, our team members made the best decision they could given the information they had and allowed him to remain on the flight. However, if our colleagues had witnessed firsthand what was shown in the video, there is no question they would have removed him from the aircraft. He will never again be allowed on a Delta plane.

Part of being a reliable travel partner and a servant leader is acknowledging our mistakes so we can learn from them and respond more effectively in the future. Delta has apologized to the customers onboard that flight. We are also refunding those customers the cost of their tickets.

I actually think kudos belong to the flight crew who didn’t eject the passenger, his rant was unfortunate and he shouldn’t have subjected passengers to it. But crew are too quick to toss passengers due to ‘security’. And Delta really didn’t owe passengers anything here, either.

  1. He should have been ejected from the flight. Not for any security reasons, mind you. It’s for being a loud, rude, incredibly obnoxious jerk, and it doesn’t matter what particular flavor of vitriol he was spewing. If that’s the start, it bodes ill for what’s to come. Kick the guy off and be done with it.

  2. What’s important to recognize is: 1) this ranting idiot has now been black-listed and will never board another Delta flight – ever ! 2) Ed Bastion is getting good at stepping out in front of a controversy and putting his face in the public eye to apologize when DL messes up. 3) Ejecting this idiot before the destination would have only disrupted and delayed the journeys of the other 150 passengers; ATL – ABE isn’t that long a flight. 4) Kudos to DL who realized that refunding the tickets for all those who had to endure this creep was a great fence-mending and loyalty building maneuver.

  3. I would feel differently if the crew had warned him to shut up and he hadn’t done so. But a lifetime ban for an obviously alcohol fueled inappropriate rant is over the top. Odd the crew didn’t say anything to him during his rant.
