FARE ALERT: New York – Europe from an Amazing $252 Roundtrip

Fares across the Atlantic have been low for a variety of reasons: too much capacity from the major airlines, low fuel prices that support this, and increased competition from low cost airlines like Norwegian and Wow Air.

AirfareSpot highlights fares to Europe starting at $281 but there’s a trick to get the pricing even lower.

Norwegian has their flights from New York JFK to Oslo, Copenhagen, and Stockholm on sale during low season of January through mid-March at a super deep discount. (I’m seeing Paris from $347, still a great deal and I actually like visiting Paris in winter.)

You can visit these cities when it’s cheap, or use these flights as a jumping off point to travel elsewhere in Europe.

If you book via their US site the fares are a little higher, that’s how you get the pricing that starts at $281.

Instead, book with their UK site and you’ll get prices in British pounds that are lower. You can use Norwegian’s fare calendar to see days with the cheapest flights:

Here’s New York JFK – Oslo for 190.30 British pounds roundtrip.

That’s just $251.85 in US dollars.

Since this is being charged in a foreign currency, be sure to use a credit card that doesn’t add foreign transaction fees.

Norwegian Air Shuttle operates the routes with a Boeing 787.

They’re a low cost carrier but you do get free hand baggage with a weight limit although checked bags are charged. Also advance seat assignments are charged.

  1. I think you left out one of the major reasons fares are lower at the moment: The increased and continuing threat of terrorism in Europe.

  2. Can do Q1 2017 Boston to London, UK & Iceland (Reykjavik) for $333. Can do open Jaw for Amsterdam (so Boston – London, Amsterdam – Reykjavik – Boston) for about $100 more and stopover up to a week in Iceland.

  3. @Nick There is also a fear of terrorism here in the US. There have been troubles here as well.

  4. Yes and we tend not to get shot by our own police in Europe so that’s a plus. Oh and no Zika virus.
