Apparently a case of self-medicating with alcohol gone horribly wrong.

A man on an Air India Boeing 787 flight to Birmingham, England was traveling with his 10 year old son.

About 40 minutes prior to landing he removed his trousers and stood in the aisle. He pulled down his boxer shorts exposing his buttocks.

‘(He) then began urinating on the floor and seat of the aircraft. He was restrained by crew with plastic handcuffs and seat belts for the rest of the flight and was arrested on landing.’

His story: he was going through a very difficult situation. He says that one of his children was lost during birth. He took anti-depressants and mixed that with a couple of whiskies.

The man was fined £300, had to pay £500 in compensation, and £185 in costs. All-in that’s just over US$1400 at current exchange rates.

Things can get super awkward in the sky when we’re all trapped inside a metal tube together — whether it’s Qantas offering on demand sex ed through its entertainment system, a celebrity’s child peeing on a brand new Vietnam Airlines Airbus A350, a child forced to pee on her seat on JetBlue (the airline apologized) or passengers urinating on each other inflight (also on JetBlue).

Unquestionably many of our fellow passengers are traveling precisely because they’re going through difficult situations. Some handle those better than others. Most don’t pull down their pants and urinate in the aisles. But some do.
