The ‘Alternate’ Promotion If You Don’t Like Your IHG Accelerate Offer

In the past couple of weeks we’ve seen Hilton and Marriott detail their end of year promotions and IHG Rewards Club do the same.

Both Marriott’s and IHG’s offerings are targeted, with different offers for different members. Some folks will have the richest offer from IHG for sure (two free nights after four stays), but that’s only for new members.

Hilton is offering double or triple points depending on day of the week. Marriott is offering various promotions that start earning after your second stay. All bonuses that are great to have, and worth registering for, but not game changers that are likely to swing stays from one chain to another especially since everyone else should be running promotions, too.

Starwood has also revealed their end of year promotion: double points on stays of two or more nights plus 500 more points for stays that are three or more nights.

We don’t yet know Hyatt’s end of year promotion plans.

Potentially the most lucrative — at least for some members — is the IHG Rewards Club promotion. For me, though, not so much. My specific offer requires 19 nights before I’ll earn enough points for a free night at their top properties. It’s 10 nights before I’ll earn 20,000 bonus points, worth $120 to me, or $12 per night. That’s not bad as far as it goes but since I have to stay 10 nights to get up to that threshold and I’m unlikely to do so, the promotion just isn’t useful to me.

That said it does give me 10,000 points for my first stay if I make that stay in September even for one night, which would be a $60 rebate. That’s pretty good.

So while — via Head for PointsIHG Rewards Club has an alternate promotion: Double Miles. I’ll do better with the points promotion, but this is still worth noting.

Miles lovers, it’s time to Double Up with a special offer designed just for you. Beginning now, we’re offering you double miles when you stay at an IHG hotel, starting with your next stay. It’s a great way to help you get to all the places you want to go, faster than ever. Available from now until 31 December 2015.

This campaign is exclusive to our miles earners. If your earning preference is points, please participate in our Accelerate promotion, where you can earn at least 50,000 points.

To earn double miles you have to be registered for mileage earning and register for this promotion.

Comments

  1. When I click on the “Already a member?” for the Double Up miles promotion it asks me to login but then there’s a “Promotion Code” field, what do I enter for that?

  2. The IHG offer for our accounts was really lame. We’ve never had a paid stay at an IHG property, you’d think they would make something compelling.

  3. How do you search IHG hotels / crowne plaza hotels(for my offer) by price instead of searching by date and city?
