Bangkok Protests Ending

Apparently the Red Shirt leaders have turned themselves in to police and the protesters are going home. Meanwhile, I read that Songkran is being extended two days.

Perhaps this represents loss of face for Shinawatra, but the underlying issues are unlikely to go away. He still has plenty of funds and supporters, the government isn’t seen as broadly legitimate, I’d expect that matters have simply been delayed until another day.

  1. If all you’re going to talk about is Thailand, why don’t you just go live there. Your guy, Shinawatra is finished, arrest warrant has been issued, and The United Kingdom won’t take him.

    Sabai dee krap.

  2. Things are going alright at the moment.
People start to go out more to celebrate SongKran.

Anyone please post the Songkran festival photos
to see how quick we recover from the mob.

  3. John, a lot of people are interested in what’s going on in Thailand. It’s a major travel destination for a lot of Americans, so I see nothing wrong with keeping us updated.

  4. “He still has plenty of funds and supporters, the government isn’t seen as broadly legitimate…”

Says who? You seem to state this as if its FACT. Do you even live here?

I live in Bangkok and the VAST majority of people, both foreign AND Thai, are cheering the latest actions of the government. Polls and interviews amongst even the rural folk show that Mr. Toxin’s pseudo-popularity is quickly dwindling.

And, as far as the legitimacy of the government is concerned, those at all knowledgeable of the parliamentary system of governance know that the process through which the current PM attained his position is completely legitimate.

  5. footballfan412 and David,

Spammers and flamers. Focus on the post by the author, not other people’s comments. Didn’t Mommy teach you both that, rather than getting the spanks you both deserve? If it was to me, I’d belt you both so bad, you’ll never come back.
