DOT Finally Approves Norwegian’s Irish Subsidiary to Fly to the US

The US and EU have an Open Skies treaty. Airlines based on either side of the Atlantic can fly from wherever they want to wherever they want, more or less.

However Norwegian Air’s subsidiary NAI – based in Ireland – was getting slow walked by the US government over its authority to operate. US airlines and pilots objected because of the airline’s low costs and low fares.

Low Cost Airline Merger: XL Airways is Taking Over La Compagnie

XL Airways is acquiring french all business class airline La Compagnie in a deal where financial terms have not been disclosed.

The La Compagnie founder has resigned, and XL Airways CEO Laurent Magnin will run the combined company. La Compagnie founder Frantz Yvelin founder had last started all business class transatlantic carrier L’Avion and sold it to its primary competitor British Airways back in 2008.

Here’s What United’s New Polaris Service Looks Like on a Flight

Reader Mike D. flew Chicago – Shanghai on United in first class, and graciously shared some of his photos of the new Polaris inflight product on its first day in service.

United’s first class product is virtually identical to business — the food is nearly the same, for instance, though there will generally be an extra course and first class passengers will get first choice of entrees ahead of business class passengers.
