The San Antonio airport won’t be getting a Chick-fil-A. The city council awarded a new food service contract — and a condition of doing so was that the company awarded the deal had to drop its plan to open a Chick-fil-A because of Chick-fil-A’s political beliefs, that they’ve been ‘associated with anti-LGBTQ’ groups and causes.

There are certain “go-to” routes for award availability, when your favorite, most convenient or most ideal options aren’t open. One of those routes is Seattle – Tokyo on Japan Airlines.
Here’s a search for awards in July, which isn’t the month with the best availability. What I wanted to do was illustrate when awards are toughest to get what availability looks like.

The KrisFlyer program raised Singapore Airlines award prices again at the beginning of 2019 with about three weeks’ notice. Again they created the window where Star Alliance awards could be cheaper (albeit with fuel surcharges) and again offering a window of savings to throw away a partner flight segment at the end of a one way award booking.
That’s a pretty good indication that things wouldn’t last — that the Star Alliance award chart would be devalued too.

When American changes from a legacy Boeing 737-800 to a retrofitted ‘Oasis’ plane with a different configuration, most passengers keep the same seat numbers even though those seats are completely different.
