Qatar Airways Business Class Passenger Arrested for Throwing Mints

On October 26, a Qatar Airways business class passenger from Doha to Manchester, U.K. was arrested on arrival for throwing mints.

He had to be restrained with cable ties after kicking seats, banging his head on the window and shouting out when crew were alerted to his boozy antics.

…[Another passenger reports] “I first became aware of the noise he was making, a strange groaning sound.

“Later I was awoken when the passenger was banging on the window and trying to grab the passenger next to him. He was all over the place, getting up, sitting down.

The man drank 2 whiskies on the flight but reportedly appeared already drunk prior to departure. Cabin crew managed to get the man to return to his seat — but then he started throwing mints and that’s when he “had to be restrained with cable ties.”

He was arrested on arrival. Police confirmed he was held “on suspicion of being drunk” on the Boeing 787, but he was released “with a caution.”

Banging on the window it seems is one thing. But throwing mints is what’s apparently beyond the pale behavior for Qatar Airways passengers in business class.

  1. Released with a caution? At least a night in the drunk tank would seem to be in order, and a hefty fine.
