More than 100 cockroaches were onboard two international flights bound for Kunming, China. The China News Service reported on the incident on Friday while refusing to reveal where the planes were flying from, the date this occurred, or the airline.

The South China Morning Post doesn’t identify the airline either, but does share a photo from the aircraft that was reportedly taken by quarantine inspectors and concludes that it must be a Chinese airline because of Chinese characters on the headrests.

It sure looks like a China Eastern interior to me:

Customs held the cockroaches in quarantine where they were identified as German cockroaches (apparently the smallest variety).

Authorities are asking China Eastern the airline “to improve hygiene on its planes, especially those flying into and out of China..” although one wonders if it’s a hygiene issue after all, since cockroaches are supposedly a growth industry in China.

Of course we’ve seen cockroaches in Air India meals and a reader shared a story of cockroaches in an Air France lavatory. US Airways customers used to call themselves cockroaches.
