Using Saab turboprop aircraft PenAir serves Anchorage, Aniak, Cold Bay, Dillingham, Dutch Harbor, King Salmon, McGrath, St. George, St. Paul, Sand Point, and Unalakleet in Alaska.

They also serve:

  • Boston hub: Bar Harbor, Maine, Presque Isle, Maine, Boston, and Plattsburgh, New York
  • Portland hub: Arcata, Eureka, Redding, and Crescent City, California as well as North Bend, Portland, and Klamath Falls, Oregon.
  • Denver hub: Denver; Dodge City and Liberal, Kansas; North Platte, Kearney, and Scottsbluff, Nebraska

They plan to maintain their Alaska and Boston hubs while shutting down operations out of Portland and Denver.

PenAir last week announced the termination of Portland-area regional routes as part of a cost-cutting measure. All but the federally backed Essential Air Service route between Portland and Crescent City, Calif. will be shut down by the end of business Monday.

The Denver hub will be next to close.

Horizon, of course, is the primary regional carrier for Alaska Airlines so effects on the overall carrier will be slight.

  1. @steven k you may want to stop using Facebook, Google, etc as they are liberal leaning in their financial support. Never mind its at least half of our citizens

  2. . I think it was a tongue and cheek jab at Liberal Kansas, not the political slant.
