5 Minutes You Can’t Look Away From and Blogger Jailed for Visiting Country That Doesn’t Exist

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • Blogger jailed for visiting a country that “doesn’t exist”

  • Yesterday a man went through the TSA exit at the Honolulu airport, was caught, and then died. (HT: Hans Mast)

“Even after he was detained, there was still a struggle and the suspect remained combative and at that point is when he became unresponsive,” said Tim Sakahara, DOT spokesman.

First responders performed CPR before transporting the suspect to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

  • Loyalty Traveler says Wyndham Rewards no longer allows members to redeem points for premium rooms.

A Wyndham spokesman, though, tells me there’s been no change: “While some hotels do have the ability to offer additional room categories under both Go Free and Go Fast, doing so is entirely at the discretion of each hotel.”

  • American Airlines is delaying DFW airport’s renovations to terminal C. It hasn’t been refreshed since built in 1974. While it would be nice to get some new food brands in there replacing, say, Wendys and Taco Bell (the Urban Taco isn’t bad), the concourse servs passengers reasonably well considering its age.

  • One of many, a nice puff piece on United CEO Oscar Munoz, but more research and less transcription of the company line is needed when you get down to brass tacks like the hiring of Scott Kirby as President (for instance was Kirby even United’s first choice?).

  • Sully starring Tom Hanks, which came out a couple of months ago, was really worth watching only for the 5 minute scene where US Airways 1549 lands in the Hudson (and the successful evacuation that followed). So chillingly well done.

  1. The 5-minute clip is incredible. Thanks for sharing.

The best comment on youtube is: “Never travel with Tom Hanks.” 🙂

  2. Is the big guy in the video running out the door an out of shape security officer or is that the person who they apprehended?

  3. While the movie lagged and was a bit depressing in the middle, the rescue scene with the ferries (especially if you’re from RI for the Block Island boats), and the last 20 mins or so when Hanks is vindicated are not to be missed.
