BOOK BY TOMORROW ONLY: Delta Puts New York Award Tickets on Sale

Delta is offering discounts on domestic economy awards to and from New York if you book by tomorrow October 12 for travel betwen December 1 and December 20.

Now, a few things here.

  1. Delta calls this a monthly SkyMiles flash sale. So we can expect these every month, until we can’t.

  2. A sale on awards makes little sense since Delta claims there’s no regular price for awards.

  3. Using your miles for domestic coach tickets in and out of New York in December isn’t super-generous, it’s a recipe for weather delays and as business travel grinds to a halt for a business market.

Nonetheless, here are sample routes:

Are these even a deal? Let’s take a look at New York – Boston.

You’ll see flights drop in price from 7500 miles to 5000 miles.

But these are only $63 tickets. Even after the sale it’s less than 1.3 cents per point. It just gives lie to the low value you were getting before of less than a penny a point.

Indeed, there are $63 tickets available November 28 when SkyMiles wants 32,500 miles. One way. Thanks, Delta!

  1. The ‘deal’ works in reverse too. I booked LAS/JFK (LGA was also available) 1 way. 10,000 miles for economy. 14,000 miles for E+.

  2. @gary – I already know what you’ll say but what in the world did DL and Skymiles do to you to warrant all of your ire?

  3. American legacy carriers are the worst. Lousy products at high prices with no regard for the consumer. And worse, they pull stunts like this to see who is stupid.
