I receive compensation for many links on this blog. You don’t have to use these links, but I am grateful to you if you do. American Express, Citibank, Chase, Capital One and other banks are advertising partners of this site. Any opinions expressed in this post are my own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by my advertising partners. I do not write about all credit cards that are available -- instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same).
We used to see big offers for this card all the time a few years back but it’s been more common lately for American Express to just have a 25,000 point signup offer.
However they is offering 50,000 Membership Rewards points after $5,000 spend on purchases with the card within your first 3 months of cardmembership.
A couple of years ago American Express updated the card’s earning to be really interesting. You get to choose your triple points category from:
- Airfare purchased directly from airlines
- US purchases for advertising
- US gas stations
- Purchases made directly from select computer hardware, software, and cloud computing providers
The four categories you don’t select to earn triple points earn double points instead, and you earn these increased points in the five categories on the first $100,000 in each category.
The card has a $0 annual fee the first year, then $175.
Membership Rewards points are among the most valuable currencies transferring to several different airlines like Etihad as well as Delta, Singapore Airlines, Air France KLM Flying Blue, Aeroplan, ANA, and more.
You can only earn the bonus in most cases on a given American Express card once. That can cause confusion. But it also means it’s a great idea to move beyond just personal cards and look at small business cards as well.
I do not know how long this improved signup bonus offer will be available.
