FARE ALERT: Paris Under $400 Roundtrip from New York or LA

Fares across the Atlantic have been low for a variety of reasons: too much capacity from the major airlines, low fuel prices that support this, and increased competition from low cost airlines like Norwegian and Wow Air.

Today via TravelSkills you can book Norwegian either Los Angeles or New York JFK – Paris for less than $400 roundtrip. TravelSkills finds a great price but not quite as low as the $344 from New York and $394 from Los Angeles that I’m seeing because there’s a trick to how.

Norwegian’s New York and Los Angeles – Paris flights are brand new and operated by Boeing 787s. They fly twice a week from LAX and they fly four times a week from New York JFK.

Their cheapest fares are naturally available during lowest season, though I’ve always been a fan of Paris in December when there aren’t as many tourists around. (My wife especially loves it there over the holidays.)

You can use Norwegian’s fare calendar to see days with the cheapest flights. If you book via their US site the fares are a little higher.

Instead, book with their UK site.

Here’s Los Angeles – Paris for £299.80 roundtrip.

And that’s US$394.28.

New York JFK – Paris roundtrip is even cheaper at £261.70.

That’s $344.18.

Since this is being charged in a foreign currency, be sure to use a credit card that doesn’t add foreign transaction fees.

Norwegian Air Shuttle operates the route with a Boeing 787. Here’s a video of the experience:

They’re a low cost carrier but you do get free hand baggage with a weight limit although checked bags are charged. Also advance seat assignments are charged.

  1. Not a bad deal although, personally, I’d want another $100 off to fly Norwegian. Seems to be a buyers market right now to Europe, especially if you’re following the deals on sites like secretflying.

They are at least providing free carry-on luggage, so if you can live with that, it’s not a bad deal. I think you have to pay for all your food, and it’s expensive. Like US$4 for a Coke, $6 for a snack, etc. So you might want to self-cater. Ugh.

  2. Ummm…the drop off in interest in going to Europe caused by recent terror events of course has nothing to do with recent fares dropping – for airlines, cruises and tours?

  3. @Aloha, What are you talking about? Apparently there is no radical Islamic terrorism based on how little/if at all it was talked about this week in Philadelphia….
