NBA Player Kicked Off Delta Flight and TSA Ruins Olympic Trials Medal

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • 5000 Marriott points for a home solar consultation (and 25,000 more if you buy)

  • I can only imagine what member complaint may have led to this change… IHG Rewards Club “and do not stay” into the following paragraph in their terms and conditions:

IHG® Rewards Club members who cancel their Reward Night reservation and do not stay will have their points used for that reservation re-deposited into the member’s IHG® Rewards Club account, and may be subjected to a processing fee.

  • The TSA broke runner Emma Coburn’s Olympic trials medal. But they’re sorry.

  • Here’s an Airbus A350 making what appears to the eye to be a nearly vertical takeoff. Pretty cool. (HT: Martin H.)

  • Watch a plane drop phos-chek to fight a sage fire. (HT: Tocqueville)

  1. Made in the era of The Far Side cartoons, these are some funny commercials. Some of the clips have stereotypes that are not politically correct, but for the most part they were a very close approximation of what has come to pass in air travel.
I think a modern version of these commercials would include numerous gate changes, schedule changes, TSA lines (the guy getting metal detector’ed behind the curtain made me spill my water), and my favorite: learning the difference between boarding time and departure time.

  2. Maybe a stretch to call Lamar Odom ever a “star” but he’s definitely not now an NBA player. Retired. A mess, but retired.

  3. Just maybe they shouldn’t be serving Odom alcohol? Certainly if someone is getting that drunk the lounge has an obligation to cut them off. Who wants to smell vomit for an entire flight. What a mess.

  4. Why didn’t the NBA guy wear his medal and not check it in his bag for the TSA?
