American Launches Bonus Up to 25,000 Miles Per Europe Roundtrip

American launched a big transatlantic mileage bonus today up to 25,000 miles per roundtrip (up to 50,000 miles for two roundtrips).

Roundtrips on American Airlines, British Airways (including OpenSkies), Finnair and Iberia between May 9 and July 31 will earn bonuses based on fare class. Registration for promo code NAS16 is required prior to travel.

The nice thing is that even discount business class I fares will earn the full bonus and that most economy fares (H, K, M, L, W, V, G, Q, N, O, S on American Airlines marketed flights for instance) will earn some bonus.

The current British Airways sale, even after applying AARP and Chase Visa discounts, should still earn 25,000 miles for each of two roundtrips (although those miles aren’t quite worth what they used to be).

Terms and conditions:

AAdvantage bonus mile offer is valid only on American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair or Iberia, marketed or operated nonstop flights for round-trip travel between the U.S., Canada, Mexico and U.K. or Europe, May 9, 2016 through July 31, 2016. Flights operated and/or marketed by other codeshare partners are not eligible for this promotion. Offer applies only to AAdvantage members who purchase and fly on eligible published-fare tickets on or after May 9, 2016. Bonus miles will be calculated and awarded based on the number of trips flown in a specific booking class. The bonus can only be earned for a maximum of two round-trips. Half the round-trip bonus will be posted after each eligible one way segment. Bonus miles do not count toward elite status qualification or AAdvantage Million Miler status. Registration prior to travel is required using Promotion Code NAS16 at www.aa.com/offers.

Update: Things get even better! Leigh R. points out that there’s a Business ExtrAA bonus for transatlantic travel that overlaps. You can earn your miles, this bonus, and the Business ExtrAA bonus if you’re signed up for that program. Registration required.

Starting May 1, your company can earn up to 1,600 Business Extra bonus points with each transatlantic roundtrip flight*. And best of all, there’s no limit to the amount of bonus points you can earn.

  1. This doesn’t look targeted, right? It says I am not eligible, but why wouldn’t I be..?

  2. Oops, now it worked. Must have been some odd glitch. It does say booked and flown after May 9 so do you really think tickets purchased before May 9 should work?

  3. Hi Gary,

Could you please confirm Micheal’s point? I have a flight booked during June but it was done last October when BA had their fate sale.

  4. Sweet. For the purposes of this promotion, does round trip have to be AAA-BBB-AAA? I have an open jaw in I in a month: LAX-MUC-BUD, booked almost a year ago.. would that earn me the bonus? Please say yes!

  5. Big deal sale. They raised the miles required for a free ticket then they give you a bonus. Why don’t they just lower the price for a biz or first class RT ticket and i’ll pay them cash. These bonuses mean nothing.

  6. Sweet, we’re flying the discounted BA tickets we booked from last October this June so this will net us 50,000 miles. Very nice!

  7. I tried to register for my June 2016 flights I booked last Oct and they say must be booked after May 9. Is this correct?
