Avis Going Hardcore After Hertz on Twitter: Discounts, Upgrades, Status Matches Galore

mogon emails,

I see this morning that Avis has gotten aggressive about responding to any Tweets to Hertz where the customer is complaining.

…Avis responds to the original complainer and Hertz with an offer for a comp upgrade, a decent [discount code], or offer to status match.

I haven’t seen this sort of thing before from them.

And indeed Avis does seem to be reaching out to anyone complaining to or about Hertz on Twitter.

Unhappy with Hertz? Avis invites you to use a friends and family discount.

Complaining about Hertz, and mentioning your elite status?

Avis offers a status match!

They’re even offering upgrades.

I love this. Now time for Hertz to start doing the same and let them really compete!

  1. all of these companies are garbage once you have an issue with the car. my Avis car broke down less than a mile from the return center at SFO and it took them 2 hours to get roadside assistance to me. and putting aside their attempt to charge me $1000+ for the incident, the worst part was calling in to speak with them about getting a receipt for the rental w/ said charge on it (to simply present to my insurance), which took 3 calls, during each of which i needed to go through a 30-minute routine of being transferred between 4 different people.

  2. Now, if only Avis could be this proactive when dealing with their own customer issues.
