Goodness knows Americans behave badly at the airport especially when flights are delayed or they find themselves pitted against other passengers over scarce room onboard. But Americans have no monopoly on bad behavior.
And passengers behaving badly has become almost a cliche in China, like opening the aircraft door and popping the slide while looking for the bathroom or using one airline ticket to eat in an airport lounge for a year.
So it’s unfortunate but not surprising to see a gate meltdown that actually appears to end in injury for a crew member.
AirLive reported on a passenger attacking a flight attendant when his Beijing Capital Airlines flight from Changsha was cancelled due to weather.
Goodness knows tensions run high in such situations. Add in a higher proportion of passengers who have never flown before than in some other parts of the world, and nerves are exacerbated and without context or understanding that comes from experience. Unfortunate circumstances indeed.
