Garry Shandling, Passenger on Redneck Airlines, Has Died

Garry Shandling died suddenly today at aged 66.

I was fond of him because growing up I didn’t know too many people named Gary (really, anyone) and even though he had an extra ‘r’ that was close enough. Plus he was pathbreaking in many ways. His The Larry Sanders Show spoofed a behind the scenes look at talk shows, and was an early adopted of using guest stars who play themselves.

Although I always was more partial to It’s Garry Shandling’s Show, in large measure for the opening theme song.

Shandling of course was the lead passenger on Saturday Night Live‘s Redneck Airlines also known as Trans Ozark.

Best wishes to his family and others close to him. The world — and the redneck skies – feels his loss.

  1. Very sad. 2016 has started out horribly in music/entertainment.

You’re right, the Larry Sanders show was ground breaking….Hey Now!!!

  2. Funny guy. Sorry to see him pass.

Last time I saw him was on his recent visit to Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Seinfeld’s Internet show.

It was obvious he was was not doing well, but his end still came as a surprise.
