Using ‘the Force’ for Credit Card Rewards and Markets Betting on a Starwood Merger

News and notes from around the interweb:

  • In May I discussed What a Starwood merger would mean for program members. Talks with IHG ended without a deal but Starwood is said to remain an acquisition target for both Wyndham and Accor. John Paulson’s hedge fund has apparently taken a 7% stake in the chain anticipating that a merger will drive up price.

  • Guys With Boring Jobs Really Hitting It Off A Few Rows Back On Airplane (from the Onion HT: Tocqueville)

According to sources currently seated in rows 14 through 18 aboard flight 763, two middle-aged men with incredibly boring jobs are really hitting it off during the three-hour trip to Kansas City.

Using terms like “white-labeling” and “core clients,” the slightly overweight, average-looking men are reportedly engaged in a detailed discussion about overwhelmingly unexciting work-related topics and, sources said, seem to be getting along great.

  1. I’d snap up the Star Wars card if it’s available on the Disney Debit card…with little kids we hit Disney every now and then and don’t do much banking with Chase so it’s an easy merchandise discount in the parks. Not to mention the 6 year old would flip to see Darth Vader on a credit card. On second thought maybe I shouldn’t get one, he might snag it and try to use it at lemonade stands…
