Japanese Airline ANA Reveals its Star Wars 787

ANA is launching ‘the ANA Star Wars Project’ and has unveiled their R2D2 aircraft livery, apparently the “first time a Star Wars character will appear on the exterior of a commercial aircraft.”

Does this strike you as a bit of a stretch?

The R2-D2 motif works well with ANA’s blue logo design on the aircraft’s fuselage, and many people associate R2-D2 with competent and reliable service—also hallmarks of ANA’s 5-star service.

  1. This is really pretty. However, I believe it to be a computer generated aircraft, albeit a really good one. One of the flybys on the right side of the aircraft, reveals what looks to be an empty right seat in the cockpit. Very unlikely as the left seater is virtually blind to the position of the aircraft taking the picture.. In short, it wouldn’t have happened operationally.

It’s a pretty paint job though

  2. hope they re smart enough to release model aircrafts! Would buy one right away

  3. Kinda cool I guess. +1 on the model airplane version being a best seller. Seems like it should have been painted like an x-wing fighter with r2d2 painted onto the top, maybe the sat dome.
