Cathay Pacific Will Introduce a New Business Class Seat Next Year

Cathay Pacific is an American AAdvantage partner (and a member of oneworld) and flies from New York JFK, Newark, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver to Hong Kong and of course beyond.

I love their first class product, and redeem for it when I can. But their business class is excellent. It’s a similar seat to what US Airways pioneered, American has in their new 777s, and Delta flies to Asia and Tel Aviv.

I especially like the two-row ‘mini cabin’ on the Cathay Pacific 777. Their business class of course is four seats abreast on the 777, with all aisle access. It’s the ‘reverse herringbone’ style seat, which is my absolute favorite business class seat.

Australian Business Traveller reports that Cathay Pacific will come out with a new version of the seat on its Airbus A350 in February 2016, with Boeing 777 and Airbus A330s to follow.

  • It will be a similar seat to the current model
  • It’s from Zodiac Aerospace, an evolution on the current Cirrus seat
  • Designed by Porsche Design Group

“It will will be very much an evolution of our current seat rather than a brand new seat” Smith confirms.

“That seat has been very popular with passengers and we saw no reason to re-invent it.”

“But we’ve listened very closely to areas that people said could be improved, and we’ve focussed on this. So while it should be very familiar to our passengers when it comes out, we hope to have some new touches that they will appreciate” Smith says.

  1. Gary,
Thought you would want to know that cx has a new flight from Hkg to boston starting this may 2015.

  2. Gary – Thanks for the post. Could you advise how to get seat assignments for the ‘mini cabin’? I called CX and they said I have to ask for it at the airport. But I am sure that would be too late.

  3. Delta flies reverse herringbone-equipped aircraft (A330 and B747) on several transatlantic routes to SkyTeam hubs—not just to Asia and TLV. Such routes include ATL/DTW/MSP/SEA-AMS, DTW/JFK/MSP/SEA-CDG, ATL/JFK-FCO, etc.

  4. I find the current CX biz seat to be lumpy, with a big axially-oriented bar on the aisle side underneath the cushion that can be felt when sitting. I hope they fix that.
