Short-term 50,000 Mile Bonus for Delta Skymiles Credit Cards

Doctor of Credit finds a short-term offer for the Delta co-brand American Express cards.

Through December 21, American Express is offering a 50,000 mile bonus $1000 spend within three months of account approval. In addition, there’s a $50 statement credit if you make a purchase from Delta within those three months.

The offer is targeted, may not be available to everyone, but is live for both the personal Gold Delta Skymiles Credit Card and the business version of that card as well. There’s a $0 annual fee the first year, then $95, and as with all such things terms and conditions apply.

I’m not on the whole a fan of Skymiles relative to other currencies, but with Delta’s move to revenue-based mileage-earning in 2015, miles earned from credit cards become relatively more important than miles earned from flying.

  1. I have had the Delta Business Plat in the past 12 months. I would like to apply for the Delta Business Gold now. Talked to several agents. Nobody really knows if they are considered to be the same product, thus it is unclear if I would qualify for the signup bonus… Does anyone have experience on this?

  2. Hi Gary,
Thank you for the above information. Does anyone know what kind of Delta purchases could trigger the $50 credit, other than buying a ticket or something on/for the flight. The reason am asking is if one does not have a Delta trip planned in those 3 months time, I don’t know anything other than a Delta gift card or Delta Skymiles purchase- which in itself would not be worth anyway.

  3. Any valid MS methods for amex cards such as this? I’d love to have 50k Delta miles since I have a lot of family near a hub.

  4. They’ll give you the $50 credit but will not honor the 50K spend if you’ve previously had the SkyMiles cards. Don’t ask me why. They kept changing their explanation.
