Thank Goodness the CDC Head Stayed at a Holiday Inn Express Last Night…

At the time this commercial was sort of funny. 13 years later it’s kind of dark.

  1. Yeah, it was sort of funny when only people in Africa had it. That’s what you’re implying, right? It wasn’t funny at the time and isn’t funny now.

  2. Actually, no, it was funny because there were all sorts of super important, knowledgeable positions that supposedly staying at Holiday Inn Express prepared you for.

    It was over the top.

But now that we’re in the midst of an outbreak, it’s not as funny.

And it has nothing to do with “only people in Africa had it” because right now it is MOSTLY people in Africa that have it, it’s something that barely effects the US at all.

  3. Gary, tell that to the doctor in NY who came back from Africa who now has it. And the night before he went to the hospital – supposedly he was out on the town, using UBER.

“A person in New York City, who recently worked with Doctors Without Borders in one of the Ebola-affected countries in West Africa, notified our office this morning to report having developed a fever,” Doctors Without Borders said in a statement.”

“Sources said Spencer went bowling last night in Williamsburg and took an Uber car to get there and back, 1010 WINS’ Carol D’Auria reported.”

Just another sad example how our government has everything totally under control. There is no reason the good doctor should not have stayed in Africa, quarantined for 21 days or so, before coming back over.

Thank you, CDC, you are doing a great job of infecting the United States of America.

  4. Gary it was funny.

Maybe the chief at the CDC can start staying at HIX to work on those 25 nights for his into the night bonus.

Maybe Obamas new Ebola czar can start staying at one since he likely knows nothing about the virus.

  5. Good find. Pretty funny. And its funny because of the coincidence that only became after the current events.

To all those people pretending to be all better than thou, my heart goes out to all the victims and their families, and everyone does feel that. But learn to help in a meaningful way is a lot more constructive than trying to prove your moral high grounds by trying not to laugh at some joke.

  6. Gary, love the blog but just have to disagree with you here.

The commercial was released in the midst of an ebola outbreak in 2001, which is why it was relevant. The reason it wasn’t seen as dark during that outbreak? Partly because it was a smaller outbreak, and partly because the infected were localized to Africa. I would think that the public would be offended by this commercial if it came out today, but maybe I’m in the small minority.

  7. I found it funny because of its relevance now due to current events. Mainly because the professionals keep saying ebola is not airborne and we are not going to get it yet all these trained doctors and nurses who are supposed to know how to protect themselves keep getting infected, which makes me wonder just how much the professionals know about prevention of the spread of this disease. Of course, it would be a PR nightmare if Holiday Inn ran this on television now, although some late night hosts are doing Ebola jokes. If you check the facts about the post concerning an outbreak in 2001 in Africa that appears to be wrong. This commercial was released in May of 2001. At that time there were no ebola outbreaks in Africa. Per the CDC Uganda was declared Ebola free in February of 2001. Maybe check the facts next time before unfairly attacking the author of the post.
