A Second Shot at Tickets for Frequent Traveler University-Advanced

A week ago Frequent Traveler University-Advanced was launched and it sold out overnight.

One of the most requested things we’ve gotten for future Frequent Traveler University events is a different program — while each one has several different topics and speakers, they’ve also had many similar program components, and a large group of people of very mixed experience levels.

The goals with FTU Advanced:

  • Smaller, more intimate, for greater in-depth discussion
  • More advanced. FTU events welcome everyone, at all experience levels, and of course everyone is welcome. But the program will feature a more focused conversation geared to people that have spent more time with the activity.
  • A different program. We’ll be able to go more in-depth, and we’ll be able to go more hands-on. There will be internet in the meeting rooms to facilitate learning by doing, not just telling and showing.

There was huge demand for this, lots of folks wanted this July event expanded to make room for more participants. But the very model is intensive sessions with a small group, so it was capped at 125 people (in contrast, last year’s April Frequent Traveler University was for more than 600 people).

So instead of making the event larger, the organizers created a second event.

The second FTU Advanced will be held at the Marriott Chicago O’Hare September 26-28.

You can sign up here.

Please note that I will not be speaking at this event. This is one of my biggest weeks of year at work.

The goal was to make another session available, and the timing made good sense. So I suggested pushing forward with other great speakers. And indeed Lucky from One Mile at a Time and Greg from Frequent Miler are already confirmed, so it should be a fantastic event.

And in any case I wanted to make sure anyone interested had a chance to sign up, since the last event sold out so quickly.

  1. One of the busiest week of ur year. Spend spend spend B4 End of Fiscal Year. 😉

  2. I dont get why people bother getting in on the game, its getting harder and harder to play. between the cost and time and crazy airlines devaluation, it is really worth it ?

  3. Sold out already today?????? I haven’t heard if these advanced sessions and I read the blogs 6 hours a day?…..how can I get in on the next one before it sells out the sMe day????????

  4. Gary: Maybe I missed it, but when was the second conference announced? I’ve been checking everyday since missing out on the first. Can we get on a waitlist for a possible later conference?

  5. @thebone – literally just this morning! there will be another standard (not the advanced) event in december i think, more news on upcoming events will surely follow

  6. I signed up for the second advanced conference, got my e-mail but no link for the hotel. I have written the person who I’m suppose to and haven’t gotten a response.

  7. @Tony let me know if you don’t hear back but it doesn’t seem like you’ve waited very long for a response since you couldn’t have sent the email that many hours ago?

  8. I really appreciate the work that goes into organizing these events. I couldn’t have attended the July session in any case, but I lucked out and got a ticket to September FTU. I understand the need to keep the event small. Thank you for organizing a second event. Now I need to do my homework and be prepared to get the most out of it!

  9. Wow I just saw this now and it is sold out already. Is there a chance if anyone backs out?

  10. @Stacey – check out the thread on Milepoint, there will probably be folks looking to trade their tickets

  11. Gary,

Asi stated earlier, I didn’t hear about these advanced seminars until yesterday afternoon and July and September were already sold out! Can you give me a heads up or have them more frequently as I know all the basics after two years of reading blogs all day and participating in miles collection but I need the more advanced techniques and I live overseas half the year or more also!

  12. I got in on the second advanced FTU yesterday but I have not received any email with the confirmation or the hotel contact. I have no idea who to get in contact with if I don’t receive anything.
