American Express Platinum Now Gets Hilton Gold Status

American Express is offering personal and business Platinum cardholders Gold status in the Hilton HHonors program. This offer is currently available just through December 31.

You have to call American Express customer service and give them your Hilton HHonors number. Apparently American Express is ‘live’ with HHonors because reports are that status is being updated instantly.

This status should last through February 2015.

Hilton Gold means free internet, an upgrade (avoid the hotel’s rooms over the HVAC!) and continental breakfast.

The Mercedes-Benz co-brand version of the card still seems available and there are other great offers as well.

If you don’t have or aren’t going to get an American Express Platinum card, you can get Hilton Gold status via Milepoint Premium which is $49 and also comes with 1000 United miles and National Car Rental Executive status.

  1. I have a corporate Amex Platinum, it took about 15 mins for the rep to find the program, but it got done and I’m now Golden in SPG and Hilton.

  2. thank you! just a word to platinum card holders…the $200 incidental credit for airline related purchases is per calendar year so in January you will have it available again.

  3. I guess it YMMV for “instant” recognition. I’ve logged out and back in a few times and no update yet. Certainly nothing to lose sleep over, but it just means I have to check back to make sure it does eventually get recorded.

  4. Like easy victor, I’m not showing it as instantly upgraded. No biggie, as I have no Hilton stays planned for the near (or distant, for that matter) future.

Also, the agent didn’t take my HHonors number–she read me a disclosure and then thanked me for taking advantage of the benefit. I asked, “Do you need my HHonors number?” She said that they were linked directly with Hilton and would submit the necessary information to process the upgrade. No idea what that means, but we’ll see if my status is ever upgraded…

  5. I just called AMEX and they had no idea what I was talking about. They said they’re not showing anything like this with Hilton. 🙁
