Earn 35 American Airlines Miles Per Dollar on Luggage Purchases

AAdvantage Shopping  is rebating 35 American Airlines miles per dollar for purchases at eBags.com. This is 5x the usual mileage-earning there.

There are usually good discounts at eBags, and their prices are often competitive to begin with, unfortunately those coupons may interfere with mileage-earning but this is the best deal I’ve seen generally for luggage possibly ever.

Not eligible on purchases made with coupon or discount codes that are not found on this site. Not eligible on gift cards, gift certificates or any other similar cash equivalents. Not eligible on purchases made from sites other than eBags that may be reached via links from the eBags website. Not eligible on Rimowa products.

This offer is somewhere between a 50% and 70% rebate in the form of miles, if you were going to buy miles from American at retail it’s better to buy luggage through eBags and pocket the miles since you get the luggage, too.

Some of the folks who attended Frequent Traveler University in Northern Virignia or Tampa this year heard talks on buying items for miles, and selling them online to recoup the cash. My guess is there are several good opportunities for doing this on eBags but knowing this would require an understanding of the resale prices of whatever you’re going to buy and factoring in the cost of sale.

You usually get free shipping anyway, but that can be upgraded to free two day shipping if you have a Shoprunner membership — something you can get free for a year signing up through an American Express card.

I’d expect this offer to be short-lived.

  1. I’m seeing, at best, 50% resale values via eBay (after all fees, shipping, etc.) At this level, you’d be buying AA miles for 1.4 CPM… still not bad, but not as nice as the current 1.1 CPM US transfer bonus method. Of course, it’s possible to sell the eBags items for other channels (e.g., directly to someone you know) for over 50%, or perhaps I didn’t see some items that you could recoup more than 50%, but with a 50% assumption + the risk and hassle, I’m sitting out.

  2. So I tried looking at this deal of 35x miles but when going to the aa shopping portal it only says 7 miles??

Is this deal still on or what happened?
