Bits ‘n Pieces for May 8, 2013

News and Notes from Around the Interweb:

  • Peoples Front of Judea: the mechanics at US Airways are represented by the International Association of Machinists, at American by the Transportation Workers Union. They’ve got to battle out whether one gets to represent them all, or whether mechanics will have two separate unions.

Except.. the Judean People’s Front Teamsters are now seeking to represent the mechanics. The unions are all fighting each other instead of the Romans management. Haven’t we seen this at US Airways before?

  • Do You Qualify for a 50,000 Mile Signup Offer for the United Visa? There have been a bunch of targeted offers, as much as 50,000 miles plus 5,000 more for adding an authorized user. Sometimes if you’re eligible you can get the offer to come up when logged into your United account, but that’s dried up of late. Points on the Dollar posts a link to see if you qualify for a current 50,000 mile targeted signup offer.

  • And I can’t even figure out Foursquare… Starwood has just introduced SPG Social which is supposed to be Starwood meets Facebook in a dark alley or something? Actually the good folks manning SPG’s Twitter account explained,

SPG Social was designed for you to share & discuss your SPG travel stories & plans with your Facebook friends & colleagues

  • And you thought Global Entry was cool. Garuda Indonesia airlines is expanding its inflight visa processing.

  1. Excellent ‘Life of Brian’ reference. Don’t forget about The Popular Front!

  2. I got 50k miles on the Chase United card, plus 5k for adding authorized user. I sent chase a secure message and they gave me $50 additional statement credit. I am working towards hitting the $25k annual spending for the additional 15k points.

  3. RE: US/AA union fighting. I knew this would happen. And so did most people who know anything about the union/merger situation at US. It’s not going to derail the merger (I’d be shocked if that happened at this point), but everyone who cared to pay attention could see this coming.

  4. I *do* see the 50K offer when I log in. But I’ve just done a churn a month or so ago (no personal Chase though), so this might raise some flags. Do love me some United Miles though.

    Huh.

  5. Decided to go for it. Approved instantly! Great! Might push out my summer application a bit but what the hell…
